Day 29- A song from the 2010s
There was a little boy in our community who had cancer. His family was driving him to the hospital for the last time. The people of our little town gathered along side the road with glow sticks & bracelets, the fire department brought out their trucks, the police gave them an escort through town, and a group of motorcyclists followed him the rest of the way. All the time this song played on a loud speaker. I can't hear it now without thinking of that little boy and the day our town came together.

Day 29: A song from the 2010s

Staying in theme, back to Paul Simon. After decades of mediocre songs and pandering, in 2011 he went forward with a new producer, and backwards by writing all the songs around his guitar again. Old and new, playful and introspective, it was the best thing he had done in a very long time. This was the title track, which starts with a gumbo recipe.

"So Beautiful or So What," Paul Simon

Day 29: A song from the 10s

Clean and sober for about a yearā€¦ full moonā€¦ volatile thoughtsā€¦ temptation to relapseā€¦ needed to get out of the cityā€¦ lovely drive down a gorgeous moonlit country roadā€¦ intrusive and destructive thoughts persistā€¦ ā€˜this songā€™ came onā€¦ feeling of peace, calmā€¦ played it againā€¦ the musicā€¦ forgiveness, understandingā€¦ played it againā€¦ those wordsā€¦ never too late for a fresh startā€¦ temporary tranquilityā€¦ gratitude.

ā€œSleight of hand/ jump off the end/ into a clear lake/ no one around/
Just dragonflies/ fantasised/ no one gets hurt/ youā€™ve done nothing wrong/
Slide your hand/ jump off the end/ the waterā€™s clear/ and innocent/
The waterā€™s clear and innocentā€
