The Official Authors' Hangout Nude Day 2023 Contest Support Thread

Appreciate your thoughts. And I get what you're saying.

Now that the story is actually out, it's easier to talk about this. SPOILERS apply.

I originally was going to write it as an incest story. All the elements were there, in place.

But as it went on I had the idea: what if it WASN'T an incest story?

What if it were, instead, a story about nudism?

How does one NOT brought up in a nudist lifestyle learn to accept someone who's embraced it?

Especially if that person is attractive. And a family member.

I agree that most fathers who read / write / enjoy incest stories would never go there with their own daughter.

And therein lay the struggle for my fictional father.

He didn't WANT to think about his daughter sexually. And yet couldn't help it due to her insistance on nudity.

Whether he made the right choice in role-playing with the escort is of course up for debate.

But it's how he chose to deal with the situation.

The story definitely isn't meant to be some serious STATEMENT about incest fantasies, pro or con.

I've written a full fledged father / daughter incest story already, so it's not like I'm against the genre.

Just decided to do something different this time.
Your explanation (for subverting my pervy I/T expectations) is sound and comes from a cerebral, human place I am 100% about. The story is marvelously hot as is. 5.0/5.0 from me!

But I’d also 5/5 a Part 2 that closes the gap. That “goes there.” You could even stay with part one’s established motifs of self-doubt, fatherly responsibility, and internal torment, but then potentially bring our father *past* his breaking point. To wherever that might lead. … Plz?

On an unrelated note, anyone read LC68’s submission yet? Is it appropriate to freak out about it? It’s a straightforward bro-sis piece, sure, complete with “little” sister who looks and acts like a pornstar, and yet it reads like a goddamn fever dream.

All in all, I am really enjoying the 2023 contest submissions so far. What a solid slate already. Keep it up everybody.

Ahem. Harrumph. One-third of the way through the contest, there's still no link on the Categories page. I, personally, may have exhausted Laurel's tolerance for the squeaking of my wheels, so maybe somebody else could point this out to her?

From past communication with Laurel, I'd guess that she's perfectly well-aware of the situation, and can't update the Categories page because of ongoing updates on the tech (Manu's) side of the effort.

Patterns I've seen in the past in the views over time suggests that the listing on the old front page actually brings in quite a few views. Missing the link on the Categories page may not be as much of a limitation as it feels like.

It's also possible that she's decided to change the schedules so that ;the contest page goes up less than a month from the contest end, but then stays up longer after the results are announced. We'll have to wait and see on that one.

My story has been approved for publication.

Now begins the process of constantly checking in on it despite the fact I'm fully aware it won't be public until the wee hours of the morning.
And then when you try to stay up until it goes live, it waits until 15 minutes after you give and go to bed.

Mine will be live in the wee hours of the morning, probably along with a good-sized group of others. Laurel typically doesn't post contest stories on Sunday, so there may be two normal days worth of new stories.

Okay, Happy Homecomings made it through the queue in under 2 days. Pretty amazing, considering its length.
Now I'm going to go and start reading more entries and of course I'll start with people who've posted to this forum. :)
Stories are going up very quickly...there are some fantastic entries. I love this contest and I've been having a great time reading...

It's been fun but it's also been a hell of a fight
Same for me with this one. I don't know what it was. My story started in such a different place from where it ended up. Definitely anxiety provoking by the time I finally finished editing it. There's a formatting and editing error that my brain is sarcastically going 'woopdidoo!' for the time being.

Submitted a few hours ago. Had two ideas and planned to do both, but Life Got In The Way… not sure I can or will try to finish the second one or whether I’ll hold it for next year or repurpose for another contest (it’d fit well enough in Summer Lovin’) or simply finish and submit outside of a contest. If I do finish it, it’ll be sliding under the deadline.

I've finished a 14k draft, and should submit by the weekend. It's not going to be literature, not very polished, but it should be some fun for people, in the spirit of the event.

Question: are non-Brits familiar with the phrase "Exactly what it says on the tin!" I suspect it wouldn't be a good story description for Lit, sadly.

Some, Australians, sure. I’m polluted, but I know that growing up in the US, I only picked up “tin” = “can” from watching British TV series that made it across the pond. American English would more specifically use “label” (for “label on the can”) in the phrase, I clearly remember American colloquial usage of “what it says on the label” in a similar way to what I think you mean.

I’m American (Texan), and I use that expression all the time.

American, and no, I've never heard that phrase, but I can figure it out. If I were you I would go ahead and use it.

Fun comment on my Nude Day entry, Never Say Never:

Fucking incredible. Or, incredible fucking? Whatever. This was great.

Thanks, djrip for taking the time to read it, and for taking a moment to comment!
It was my pleasure! Frustratingly it took forever before I got a chance to get to it. Glad I finally did!

The readers have spoken (for now) and the score on mine leaves it vying for the bottom of my catalog.

I reread it just now and found the inevitable editing mistakes, but I'm otherwise happy with the story. Even the feedback has been good--all but the score.

It would be useful if reader's comments were more negative. They could tell me why the score is low, but apparently the ones who vote low are not the ones who comment. All I can guess is that it has something to do with story content.

My story dropped last night. With nothing better to do on a lazy Sunday morning, I’ve been tracking the votes closely, something easy to do with so few votes. It is interesting to see a vote of one star drop after all the fours and fives. I know the so called sweeps may remove it and I’m not worried overall because the story would never be a contender for a prize. I merely find it amusing/interesting/head scratching that there are those out there who seem to extract great joy in such behavior.

Think I'm going to make an effort to get mine finished and edited tonight, otherwise I'm going to just have to leave it for a year
