Afternoon all,

Well being retired has let me have more time to watch sport and there has been lots to watch this weekend. The finals of our football codes here in Aussie land were on this weekend and I've been watching the NFL this morning since we are a day ahead here.

Hope you all have a good week.

48 , do i have to wait 2 years till i can come back and talk to you guys and gals ?

Do you have booze? I'm sure we can come to an arrangement to get you thru the door if you have booze. Of course it will require to pass a quality control check ;)

Hi Starry, how have you been?

Hey Starry,

It is amazing to see adults act like kids when in a group. I know what you mean. Possibly what you need is an expectation talk for all newbies. It at least lets everyone know what is expected. Might make you sound like a hard ass but at least nobody can say they didn't know. I've lots of experience having to manage / deal with difficult people. And there is definitely an I in team, that was me for many years. Stay strong :)

Hey guys. I've not made any friends and appear to be a hard ass but I just don't understand why people can't act like adults. You volunteer for something that important then do the job as required or go away so another who will do the job can. And neighbors helping neighbors isn't something to tear apart and it's not a contest.

It's been a while

Hi there good people... It's been SO long since I've been here... Any old friends feel free to hit me up!!! 57, retired firefighter and LOVING it!!!
:D

I guess you just have to accept the fact that society has changed and it seems only tragedy gets people together these days. The old neighbourhoods I remember really don't exist these days. Lots of self interest drives social activity. Lots of "look at me and how amazing I am, now where is my award".

We have a saying in Aussie land..."the quiet achiever". Someone who just gets on with things with no thought of reward. If the work separates the wheat from the chaff then that's a good thing. Nothing wrong with expecting a standard of commitment even for volunteers.

Just stopping by to Hi, hope everyone finds something to smile about today, and everyday.

Hi everybody! Somebody asked me in a PM how old I was, and the lady part of me isn't about to tell. I'll just say I've got the ID to be here...

yep. my team & I have been talking about this for a while now.
too sad it takes a trauma to make people work together these days.

Your lady part speaks???? :D No wonder women are smarter than men, my man part just sits there watching TV.

It's getting close to Summer time here in Aussie land so the temps are going up in the south of the country nearly as warm as in the north of the country.

Saw the bush fires in California. Reminds me of our own bushfires a couple of years ago that wiped out towns, the pics look very similar with entire streets devoid of houses. Some of those towns are still recovering several years later.

On the good news front the cricket is about to start. A game which I know you guys in the US don't understand. It's an acquired taste.

Afternoon all,

Well with age comes eye checkups. Got bifocals last year even though I rarely use them. Can't use them for driving mainly cause I can't see the numbers on the dash with them on. Anyway I spent lots of dollars yesterday getting new lenses and it was cheaper to buy new frames and lenses than just change the lenses. How things have changed.

Afternoon all,

For those not in Melbourne and if you aren't aware, a big horse race is happening on Tues, we even get a public holiday for it but a lot of people take the Monday off to make a long weekend of it.

Finally got all my specs yesterday and an eye issue to boot apparently just a dry eye. Never had eye issues before. As I mentioned to the doc, this getting old thing is making me experience new stuff and not in a fun way.

Hope your weekend goes well.

Never had dry skin issues before then suddenly two years ago...dry skin. Didn't know what was going on till I was referred to a skin specialist who gave me the news...now I moisturise everyday...still find it annoying especially in the heat of Summer. On the good news front the eye issue has gone away. Not a fan of eye drops. Learnt a new trick if it comes back. A warm compress helps with dry eyes...who knew!
