Some of us were raised in a culture that attempted to teach us to be what is now labeled as "trad wives". And it took everything to get away from it and raise our kids to expect better. The trad wife movement is a regression, a loss of progress. Fuck that.

Like… a woman who stays home and raises the kids instead of working to earn money is still the default role for literally millions of women in the US and literally 100s of millions of women on the planet. I can/could cook, clean, sew, watch kids, do receiving lines in my sleep (and have!), Throw and host parties at the drop of a hat with minimal effort And cost, Look presentable always, garden, have a conversation with almost anyone, public relations, tour guide and other such skills. Luckily, I had a good formal education so I didn’t have to fall back on the above skills. I don’t choose to do a lot of the things I can do.
I was basically raised for a world that doesn’t really exist much anymore. It wasn’t actually a traditional life role in the sense of the “traditional wives“ that I’ve seen on YouTube, But more of one where women might work, have a family and a career of some sort, but would also be doing a fair amount of volunteer work.
At one point, I thought it might be interesting to become a docent for the local museum. That’s two years of studying the artwork during the day. I think it’s four hours a week before you get be a docent and do tours. You also have to already be a member and friend of the museum ($$$) It also presumes that if you do work, you have a job where they don’t mind if you’re gone four hours a week. I work for myself so I could do that I suppose. I do volunteer in that I am part of a nonprofit outside my work, but it’s not traditional And other than maybe four events a year the rest of the time is fairly flexible.
I don’t remember exactly at what point I stopped being part of that life, but it was in my late 20s. I can slide in and out of it if needed, But I prefer a quieter life of nature, books, art and music.
I’m also pretty much a free spirit and not subservient in the least.
I can’t think of any traditional wives in my immediate family or even going back as far as my great grandparents generation. In someways, I’m not sure the traditional wife is real. Or it only exists as kind of a role-play for people who either don’t have other interest in life or have the money, but not the background of community service.
The world I grew up in, would look at a traditional wife as a waste, yes, they could take care of their children and their husband and whatever, but what other contribution were they making to the world or even their family’s business?

Inglehoffers was always a treat when I was young. And, it was typically served with Kowalski's kielbasa. But we didn't have that much so it worked on sandwiches, too.
