"One Night in XXX” Story Event: Official Support Thread

The kicker is that you wouldn't find a court in the United States that would consider a free-use erotica story site as nonprofit educational purposes. First, neither you nor the Web site would be safe in court in terms of "educational purposes," and, on the other criterium, you might not be making a profit, but the Web site is. I don't think Laurel and Manu have ever tracked down a knowledgeable entertainment lawyer to give them the news on how massively copyright is violated at Literotica every day. Not that anyone is revving up to take them to court.

Yes, I looked into all of that because I do like using lyrics and if you're publishing, forget it. It's way expensive to get permission to use lyrics which is why almost no-one does it. You can get away with quotes from old poems where the copyright long expired, but if you're going to publish, just don't go there. I've seen quite a few authors do a chapter by chapter song list, where they list the song name and singer/band, but with no lyrics.

On Literotica, Laurel allows a bit more flexibility and that's her call, so I go with a verse or two of the lyrics without abusing it. I'd never do the entire song tho. Anyhow, for this story event, that should be enough of a guide

I have used lyrics quotes many times, and it's always been accepted. I think I quoted a whole song, in small segments, once.

Wow Am I ever glad I asked that "dumb" question ! I would be quite embarrassed to try and explain my incarceration and impending bankruptcy to friends and family!

My first inclination is say; Screw it if you don't know the song...but maybe I'll take a chance and use a line of two. Really shouldn't even need to...I mean how many songs about Baton Rouge can there be? Especially ones that have a young couple with healthy bodies who thumb there way across the country?

I just submitted the new chapter of Mary and Alvin, and I know the next one is, emotionally, going to be the hardest to write, so I am grateful for this chance to step into a different realm for a few days. It's a palate cleanser, you might say.

Deciding just which night in Bisbee is the hard part. Hallowe'en is too seasonal. But maybe it's Tuesday, night of the weekly cross-dressing bar crawl in Old Bisbee and up Brewery Gulch. Nudists from a commune by the Time Tunnel sensuously streak naked on skateboards down Tombstone Canyon, smoothly dodging traffic. Art cars with live nude 'sculptures' on their roofs circle Quality Hill. Randy lands his FlyMobil gyroplane at Bisbee International (airstrip just above Mexican border) at sunset and taxis to the Copper Queen hotel for action. Scary Mary swaps her realtor's garb for flimsy silk scarves. The crew filming a Steven King movie prepare to set a jaguar loose in Central Alley for a midnight scene. Just another evening in Bisbee, Arizona.

But wait! What is happening down in the big copper mine, the Lavender Pit?

I'm afraid hairspray and deodorant are all we have to work with; we were not supposed to stay in Bilbala. Great flame-throwers, but we can't burn the whole place down.

Clean with with a bucket of hot water with 7 oz. of soap and 3.5 oz. of kerosene. This will kill the larvae of fleas and prevent eggs from hatching. Wipe down surfaces with kerosene and lightly spray the surrounding floor walls and bedding with kerosene.

Air room well. Do not smoke in bed. If you do, fleas will be the least of your worries but for sure it'd be a real hot night in Bilbala

Same here, it was a nice break from my funk about the other two stories I have fallen out of love with. Thanks to some kind help by parties who will remain anonymous, I have undertaken a fairly extensive re-write on one of them. Now I need to get back to that fun chore

No links *outside* LIT. I've linked to others in my catalog from within stories. I've not tried linking to forum threads -- I may have read of authors linking to feedback / discussion pages. But non-LIT links, even fakes, are automagically removed after submission. That's a safety measure.

You can put a link in a bulletin board message as you just did. I sometimes do that to provide a bit of background flavor for a story: a location, a song, whatever. The moderators have allowed it. It's not crucial, just a bonus.

Hmmm, so a link to a Lit Forum post that has links to a y-tube song & song lyrics. That's pretty clever. I'm not sure this story is really worth it though...at the end of the day, it's just a little love story. But that is a clever thing to keep in mind.

Ugh. I'm not happy with the direction One Night in Dubai is going. I'm going to have to back up a thousand words or so and try again. But I really don't have a better direction in mind. I know where I want the story to go, but I'm not sure how to get there.

Usually my stories come to me as my mind wanders when I'm bored. I work out whole scenes in my head, and then write them out later. But work and life have both been hectic recently and my daydreaming time has been seriously curtailed. It's going to be a busy weekend, so I won't have much time to write anyway.

Something similar happened with mine. I had the story charted out in my mind, wrote through it to a climax, and then I stopped. The way I'd written it, my climax came early and what should have been the climax was a disappointing denouement.

I only need to back up a few hundred words. It's a short story, after all. Then I get to re-imagine the climax and resolution. Sometimes that's actually the fun part.
