Interracial Category

I don't have any data to back this up, but I wonder if this is now a significant part of the appeal of interracial erotica/porn. It's not that the people who like it are racist, but they know that racism itself is taboo now, and it's fun to indulge in taboos. It's human nature to want to be naughty. It's a big part of what drives erotic fantasy.
It seems to be getting more common, although I expect the plain old racism is still heavily represented (and that some of it now masquerades as something a bit more socially acceptable such as this type of meta-taboo).

I like that "I'd rather be the hammer than the nail" quote that @joy_of_cooking cited from your link. I think that really gets at some of what drives POC of various kinds to create or indulge in IR erotica and porn.

I personally only accept racism in media from bad guys or inconsequential comic relief jackass characters- which are often the same thing.

I hear that, but it is entirely possible to write a story where the characters' difference in ethnicity simply factors in their attraction for one another and that would make it inherently an interracial kink. And it does not necessarily have to fetishize race neither, as attraction to a skin color is really no different than attraction to eye color or breast size or muscle tone or hairstyle or anything else. People are attracted to unique traits and if a handsome Arab man enters the white neighborhood, it will turn some heads just because he stands out as the special one. He's the exotic flavor that they want to try. It's no different than the one girl in school that all the boys crush on because she's the only one covered in freckles. She stands out.
Yeah, this. I agree with this, racial attraction can just be a preference or desire no different than those things. And not always as bad as some of you think it is, even if it is a fetish. Sometimes a fetish can turn into an obsession, like those black spades... although I wouldn't say I'd avoid a relationship with one, depending.

Now, now, your story was both, but once the carpet munching is going on, Laurel isn't got to keep it in IR!

I must explain, I was called a carpet muncher recently.
I used to love playing that game... or was that Letter Muncher...?

I think you are misunderstanding. I said I think she’s right. I think she is recognizing what the IR category is here, and it’s not about sex between people of different ethnicities.

I've never ventured there, but I think the race has to be played up to fit there. I don't think Laurel cares about the social politics of the readers. Just mentioning in passing ain't good enough, it gotta be Laquisha, Ming Ling, and Becky, or close to it. Technically my story Sextacy is interacial, but it's not what the story is about.

Jamila, Ha-yoon and…er… Emily 😬.

All American though.

That is the most disgustingly racist shit right there....
While you continue to flaunt racism as erotica. You perpetuate the myth.
Why is a black woman, or man having sex with a Caucasian taboo?
Only if you consider the black person of lesser value.
Otherwise, it's just two people having sex...

Cagivagurl
The only people who think it's taboo are the racist. Nobody else cares, even if it isn't a preference. It's not just about "lesser value" either, black spades certainly don't generally think that, although the slave girls and those white men who like them might.

Nah, most interacial porn is just interacial porn, like it always has been. They might play up the big dick some, but dats about it. When the white girls a black spade, then you know what you're getting into. I managed to run across the black spade and black slave(don't know what the right term is, if there is on), and it was a bit unnerving.

If it gets me laid, I'm not exactly about to clutch pearls and go "how dare you Becky, I'm a humanbeing!" I'm about to wreck that shit and leave her walking like baby Bambi.

I've been in the situations where me being black was the incentive. From preference, to desire, to "gimme that nigger dick, black nigger daddy". That third one... I don't mess with them anymore, not your daddy.

Is it easy to explain those terms? I worry about googling stuff like this. There are things on the Internet I can't unsee.
Queen of Spades is a white woman who has sex exclusively with black men. In stories there is usually an element of ownership and free-use of the woman by any black man. There is usually a tattoo of a Spade symbol with a Q in it.

Spade is an older term for a black person. I don't know if it's used much anymore, but I was a little surprised to see that it's used in the for Police Academy movie and it was used as a slur.

The concept is not racist at all. Fetishizing someone's visible ethnicity is no different than fetishizing someone's tits or balls. However I do admit that an author who handles these elements poorly can at least come off as racist.

And while I would agree that interracial couplings are for the most part no longer taboo in our modern western society, it does depend on what neighborhood you're in. Furthermore, the taboo is not created by the attraction of the mixed couple involved. The characters are not racist. The taboo is created by the racist community around them. The couple is actually defying the racism.

And going even further, again while mixed couples are not really taboo anymore today, a story involving a black/white couple in 1960s Mississippi would be highly taboo and completely valid.

Or imagine a Jewish/Arab couple in the middle east today, defying the hate between the cultures that is actually launching rockets at each other as we speak. That's not racist. That is defying open racism.

Even BBC (a sub-genre trope of interracial) is not necessarily racist itself, but admittedly is entirely built on racist stereotypes, a feminine white porn damsel who just cannot resist the power and charms of a ridiculously endowed black superhuman porn star. Just how racist any given BBC story may be perceived comes down to how the author handles these stereotypes.

I call them Black Spades, they're white women who usually have a black spade tattoo that worship black dick like the Mayans worshipped the sun. It's the equivilant to passing through certain neighborhoods and noticing a few houses have a "signal" if you will, that signifies they're swingers, like a purple square in the front window or something. Usually you'll see BNWO with that stuff; Black New World Order.

I don't know if there is a right term, but I found them on twitter by accident; black chicks who worship white dick the same way and seem to even add race play and self-depreciation to it more than the white women.

For casual hookups, the particulars of motive are easy enough to ignore. You pretty much know what you're getting into when someone walks up to you and says "is it true what I've heard about Black guys?" I've been there, I get it.

Anything more than that -- like, anything that involves actual talking and socializing and/or dating -- the race tourists get tiresome really fast. :p

Uh-huh. I had quite the reputation at the cd/trans parties I used to go to. Even if I don't mind it too much, unless it's that third example, which was verbatim and I've got the text and emails to prove it, is one reason I don't have dick pics on fetlife.

Okaaay..

Seriously - and I am asking this seriously - why then is this satyrical poster funny to maybe half the people on the planet?

Which half?

Fur traders. I laughed. It's like Lesbian Pirates of the Caribbean: the Revenge of Blackbush. :p

Hah, I just noticed ... screenplay by Howard Stern.

And the sequel number 2 is in pink, awww.

I've seen Queen of Hearts for this. Much less common in stories that I've seen.

I could see why it is funny, even if I don't find it funny. It's not that I don't find it funny because of some PC bullshit or whatever, I get the references to lesbianism and the list of socially conventional "hot" celebs, and the interracialness of it. I've never even seen this until now, and it must be old as shit to the point the internet forgot about it, because Brittany is listed. How did you find this relic?

I originally ran across the black chick stuff on twitter, the black spade stuff was in porn comics I've ran across. I didn't even know either of it was an actual thing. I shouldn't be bothered by it, but the former does just a lil bit. But I never said I have no biases.

I will confess to having to dig for it, but it had a fair circulation shortly after the time the original was released. It came to mind when I was reading the recent sidebar discussion on lesbianism. (I will confess to not even noticing the IR ‘cast’.)

I guess my point was that the general reaction to this spoof and the original poster is going to differ considerably and I don’t really understand why, anymore than I understand why IR is a big deal in the first place that is.

I think it's a big deal because of the development of this country. I believe other countries with similar foundings or because of invasions, and those with copious xenophobia probably have the same issues, like India with colorism, japan is somewhat racist agsinst black folk and if Blue Eyed Samourai has any truth, any japanese mixed with what ever whites found themselves there with no consequences, were seen as abominations. There's the issues with Romany folk in some places. The anglo-saxon whites hated jews, italians, irish just as much as us, them being "white" barely got them a pass. In the times of slavery was when it became a taboo and probably where the term jungle fever stemmed from.

I write POC in quite a few of my stories (more as I have got comfortable with it, given my not insignificant whiteness 😬). In a recent story:

Lily’s First Valentine’s

The FMC is a banished angel, unaccustomed to how things work on Earth, but wanting to buy her she-demon girlfriend some Valentine’s gifts.

The first gift is lingerie, the second is chocolate, the third is roses, the fourth is something heart-themed (she also decides on her interpretation of perfume, but that was mostly me ribbing a friend about used panty festish).

Anyway, the chapter about chocolate involves a black guy who owns a chocolatier (and was trained in Paris). I was a little concerned I was being tropey / racist and asked a couple of black AHers (both of whom have posted on this thread) about my idea for this section.

If you scroll down to Chocolate on page 1, I’d be grateful for any perspectives on whether or not I handled it OK. Or whether I could have taken a different approach. BTW the chocolatier gets an HEA.
