I submitted a 750 worder recently to Interracial. It was about a threesome between a black girl, a white girl, and an Asian girl.

So interracial, right? Apparently not. Laurel moved it to Lesbian. And you know what, I think she’s right.

I think if I submitted a story featuring a white guy and a black girl to Interracial, it would probably be moved to Romance or Erotic Couplings.

Is it time we renamed Interracial to what it really is, BBC Central?

Fun, healthy sex that just happens to be multi-chromatic does not count for the "interracial" kink. The kink is about "interracial that the audience thinks of as excitingly taboo." That mostly means Black dudes + White women, b/c that's the coupling that actually threatens people and gets them in their feelings (and/or elicits violence) in real life. (More recently it has also started to exploit colorism & incorporate "Dark-skinned dudes + Light-skinned women" but that's marginal.) To a lesser extent, South Asian dudes / Asian dudes / Native dudes can work, too, but it's basically always about indulging and/or dipping one's toe into the taboo kink.

Yeah - hence my suggested renaming.

It feels like the South never lost.

It's two things:

1 ~ Laurel's arbitrary trump system that's really just scared of squicking the no-homo crowd.
~ If a gay story has more than enough elements to qualify for another category and the author feels strongly enough to put it in that category, then why can't it be up to the author to risk the no-homo downvote? I get it. Laurel doesn't want to turn away readers due to excessive squick. Valid concern, but come on. Now if any story does not have enough elements to qualify for whatever category it is submitted to, by all means, the admin should move it or reject it on the advice of selecting a more appropriate category, but in Emily's example that is not the case. It is just as interracial as it is gay and I believe should be the author's choice.

2 ~ An outdated and inflexible category system that does not serve the community.
~ Some categories have rigid expectations and some have totally scattered expectations. Then again, some categories become overrun by cliques and BBC in interracial is prime example. If you write an Asian and a Latino you will get a response between weak and hostile due to the BBC clique. This discourages people from writing non black-white stories. Stories and ideas should never be systematically discouraged. Now Literotica can't stop the BBC clique, but it can remove the systematic discouragement by breaking Interracial category into sub-categories such as BBC, (non-BBC) black, Asian, Latin, Various Brown (Indian/Arab/etc) or however we feel is best to break it down. Now an author can confidently post a LatinoxGinger story without any fear of backlash from the clique, and the reading and the community at large will become more vibrant fresh and original.

I hear that, but it is entirely possible to write a story where the characters' difference in ethnicity simply factors in their attraction for one another and that would make it inherently an interracial kink. And it does not necessarily have to fetishize race neither, as attraction to a skin color is really no different than attraction to eye color or breast size or muscle tone or hairstyle or anything else. People are attracted to unique traits and if a handsome Arab man enters the white neighborhood, it will turn some heads just because he stands out as the special one. He's the exotic flavor that they want to try. It's no different than the one girl in school that all the boys crush on because she's the only one covered in freckles. She stands out.

The most reliable way to know that racism is dead is that "interracial" porn will cease to be a thing.

Possible in theory, I guess. In practice it almost never works that way, to the point where characters written as if it did would fail to convince, at least for me. Far as I've ever seen, if skin color matters to someone for purposes of attraction, there is nearly always some other racial baggage going on. (I have no problem embracing this when writing I/R, I guess others' mileage may vary.)

Trouble in paradise, eh? :p

Jokes aside, I understand how you feel. Picking categories should be our choice alone. It should be up to us to weigh the pros and cons and then make a decision about where to post a story, assuming the story does fulfill some basic criteria for the chosen category, which your story does.

Maybe it's because you are "socializing" with me... 😁

Base your lesbian characters on Celebrities next time. Or make them aliens or elves or close family members. Then you'll avoid a category swap.

Now, now, your story was both, but once the carpet munching is going on, Laurel isn't got to keep it in IR!

I must explain, I was called a carpet muncher recently.

I think you are misunderstanding. I said I think she’s right. I think she is recognizing what the IR category is here, and it’s not about sex between people of different ethnicities.

Again, I think the category swap was fine. I’m not complaining. But I am pointing out that it is a tacit admission of the true nature of the IR category.

Are you really happy with her making that choice for you? I mean, if you decided to post your story there, you must have known what the category was (I have no idea btw).
I find it hard to believe that you suddenly came to a realization after she moved your story. I smell rationalization. ;)

Nope. It was an experiment and my hypothesis was proven conclusively. I’m much more Machiavellian than you realize!

So, who here wants to read a story about a full figured black woman who fetishizes tiny white dick?

Because I'm seriously considering writing it. I even have a title:

Raisin Dick Rocks Her World

Well, no, I think lesbian would still trump that if all "action" characters were female.
