How would you know if something serious happened to your best online friend or lover?

For my non-lit online friends, my sister knows most of them and has e-mails for the others that are important to me. I can even think of a couple that she would enjoy giving bad news to.

There are a couple of people here who have my phone number, if I drop off the face of lit, I hope they would call to check on me.

We have each other's phone numbers and addresses although we live in different countries. If I didn't hear from my friend, I'd call him, and I would hope that since my ex lives in the same town, he'd let me know if something bad happened to my friend even though he (my ex) and I no longer talk to each other. I'm not sure what my friend would do if I stopped coming online and he couldn't reach me by phone. It's kind of funny. If I have to go out late at night, I always tell him where I'm going and make sure he'll be online til I get back, because I want SOMEONE to know where I am, even though he's over a thousand miles away. It makes me feel like I'm not alone.
