I never make references like that. Strikes of trying to elicit vote manipulation. To my knowledge, readers never know a story I submit is part of a contest. If they do, it's because of a thread here or the story list itself.

I assume that the people who favorite me get a post that I have a new story. Do they know it's in a contest? Dunno. My new stories will get lots of reads as long as they are tagged new. Then it drops off fast. Sometimes lots of people vote early. Sometimes it takes a while. fifty votes in a week would be rare.

Yes they do, and no they don’t unless you tell them, which you can do in the story or by updating your profile. On the hand, ‘vote for me!’ seems a bit redundant and crass. If they follow you, they already like your work by default (unless ‘hate followers’) but surely we’d rather people give honest feedback?

I agree, actually, which is why I'm careful to say some variation on, "Read all the stories and vote up your favorites." I think we all benefit when we enter contests; I've done dozens of these, and won just a handful. I'm not really hung up on "winning." I truly do want the readers to read everyone's work.

Hell, I don't even think I can win this one. Doesn't change the excitement of being in the contest and supporting everyone here in this thread.

Got a bit of polishing to do before it goes to submission.

Silly question, in order to qualify, but it always pops into my mind. When it says that a contest must have exactly "Special Contest" in order to qualify, is it essential to have the quotation marks?

No, in fact the contest rules state to NOT put the quotation marks in the notes to admin, a support thread should also state that

You have to include the quote in the notes to admin field to be included in the contest. Using the tag just gives people another way to find the story.

Nude day is more inclusive than Nude Day 2025, so more results would be returned. I’m dumb enough not to have included the Nude Day tag.
