Today is the 31st anniversary of Janis Joplin's death. She died of a heroin overdose at the Landmark Hotel in Hollywood, California in 1970. If she was still alive she would be 58 years old.

Let us spare a thought or two for the greatest white female blues singer to have ever lived and if you have a chance, play some of her music to appreciate the gift of her heart and soul to the world.

Didn't I make you feel like you were the only man, yeah,
An' didn't I give you nearly everything that a woman possibly can ?
Honey, you know I did!
And each time I tell myself that I, well I've just had enough,
But I'm gonna show you, baby, that a woman can be tough.

I said come on, come on, come on, come on and take it,
Take another little piece of my heart now, baby,
Break another little bit of my heart now, darling, yeah.
Hey! Have another little piece of my heart now, baby, yeah.
You know you got it if it makes you feel good,
Oh yes indeed.
All right!

You're out on the street looking good, honey,
Deep down in your heart I said you know that it ain't right,
Never never never never never never hear me when I cry at night.
Honey, I cry all the time!
And each time I tell myself that I, well I can't stand the pain,
But when you hold me in your arms, I'll sing it once again.

I'll say come on, come on, come on, come on and take it!
Take another little piece of my heart now, baby.
Break another little bit of my heart now, darling, yeah,
Have another little piece of my heart now, baby, yeah.
You know you got it, child, if it makes you feel good — hey!

Now all right!

Now come on, come on, come on, come on and take it,
Take another little piece of my heart now, baby.
Break another little bit of my heart, honey, yeah.
Hey! Have another little piece of my heart now, baby,
You know you got it if it makes you feel good.
Hey! Hey! Have another little piece of my heart now, baby,
Break it, break it, break it, yeah.
Have another little piece of my heart now, baby,
You know you got it, child, if it makes you feel good.

I've never been a Joplin fan, but I do like Faith Hill's cover of that song.

Skibum, I cannot believe thatb you would even mention that here. Whew. Better run now, before the rabid Joplin fans get you.

Oh, they aren't here? Hey, no one told me Isabella was sponsoring a Janis Love Fest. I am on the way honey!!!

Yeah! Janis.....

Busted flat in Baton Rouge
Headed for the train
Feeling nearly faded as my jeans

Bobby thumbed the diesel down
just before it rained
took us all the way to New Orleans

I pulled my harpoon
out of my dirty red bandana
And was blowin sad while Bobby sang the blues

With those windshield wipers slapping time
And Bobby clapping hands we finally
Sang up every song the driver New

Freedom's just another word for
Nothing left to lose
Nothing ain't worth nothing
But it's free

Feeling god was easy Lord
While Bobby sang the blues
Feeling good was good enough for meeeeeeee
Good enough for me and Bobby McGee....

I am feeling a huge case of the blues coming on!

Cheers to Janis

Oh yeah. Janis. What a voice. Was listening to that song last night.

"Take another little piece of my heart, now baby."

('cause there ain't much left there) Damn, I need a drink.

<holding two fingers up>.........................My girl there.........That chick could wale............

Janis was my first CD. Thanks for the reminder, Isabella. Think I'll go pop her in.

Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose...

o lord wont you send me a mercedes benz?
my friends all have porsches, I must make amends

'Move Over', 'Half Moon' and her version of 'Summertime' - classics.

Janis may have been the greatest blues/rock female singer ever--wish she was still wailing...
Also Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison, all three died around the same time..

"When the music's over, turn out the light"

"I got them old cosmic blues!"

Janis was amazing. But she was also a major skank. I wouldn't have fucked her with ppman's dick.

Farewell Song

Whoa, the last time that I saw ya
Child, I know, no, you didn't say a word.
And I knew, darlin' as I looked into your eyes
That my feelings, oh, they'd never been heard.

Well, I'm talkin' to you about love,
Did you hear me, I said love,
Because it's got to be such a long, long, way
From denyin', from denyin'.

And I say, don't say no, no, no to me no more.
And I believed in you all the time,
Honey, until I found out, you know, that I was so wrong.
Won't you try and build a life with you,
Guess I should've known it, I guess I should've known it all along.

Oh, oh, oh, oh, let me hold you just once more
Babe, I ask you just once more
Because it's got to be such a long, long way from cryin'
And I been cryin' and I got tears in my eyes.

Yeah, but don't you know when you love somebody that's so precious
They can never, never, never be had very cheaply
No, no, no, no, no, no, no.

You're gonna have to pay your dues
And sometimes, sometimes I guess you're bound to lose.
Hey, but that's the way
You're gonna learn, learn, learn to love deeply.

Now oh God, I wish I could explain that myself,
'Cause I know that it's my fault, too.
It's so easy to hurt you, darling,
It's so hard, it's hard not to do.

And I know that you showed me a new life
And you'll always, you'll always be my friend.
Yeah, but I don't think, honey, that I can keep from tryin'
And I'll be tryin' and I been cryin' for you, baby,
Yes, I have now.

Well, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me
What would I do without you, child ?
I'm afraid that I can't say.
But I hope, honey, that when you will remember
Lord, it'll be, it'll be such a sunny day.

Now, now, now, now, good-bye,
I'll see you sometime
And don't be worried, everything's just fine.
Babe, I don't think
That I can keep from dyin'
And I've been dyin'.

I say now every day I die a little bit, babe
I say now every day I lose me someone in my heart
I've been lonely, lonely, look around baby
I said now I can't help myself
I can't help myself
I gotta find him, gotta, I gotta need him

'Cause I gotta find my man, find my baby
'Cause I gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta,
Gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta, yeah, gotta
Gotta, gotta, gotta, oh my Lord I gotta
Help me now now now now
Help me, babe, yeah, yeah, yeah,

Love ya Janis!

THANKS ISABELLE

I was only 8 when she died but I listen to that type of music today. Though I was never a huge Janis Joplin fan, that is my favorite song that she sang.

Amazing grace ...

ahhhhhhhh miles dear ...

now if that is the kind of attitude you are going to take about women as wildly uninhibited and carefree as Janis was ...

... well darling i am afraid you are going to miss out on a lot of hot sex ....

skank? Janis was never a conventional beauty by any means ... but she was never a skank ... IMHO ...

oh and also dear could i trouble you to pick up another bottle ... you know one of those biggie sizes ... of Jack Daniels for us ... <hiccup> .... please baby ... ;)

That saved a wretch like me

But now I'm found
Was blind but now I see

aahhhhhh Isabella, my Princepesa.

I'll have to pass on having hot sex with alcoholic junkies. BTW, she loved Southern Comfort.

I'll compromise. She was a skank with class.

Oh Janis,

She died on my birthday (only 11 years earlier). I love her music!

and duane allman too...the master of the slide guitar...

all died before i was born but i was raised on their music...their songs were part of my childhood and i sang with them in place of nursery rhymes

poor janice/pearl...what an amazing woman she was

sigh

and duane allman too...the master of the slide guitar...

Before Duane died, The Allman Brothers Band was one of the all-time greats. Once he was gone their music turned into Top 40 schlock (Ramblin Man).

The album called The Allman Brothers Live at Fillmore East is easily in my top three favorites of all time.

Duanne Allman was working as a session muscian for a long time before the Allman Bros Band started to move and his work appears on many great tracks by other artists.

One of my favourites is "Loan me a Dime" on the first Boz Scaggs album.

oh god yes...i have that song on both the boz scaggs album and duane's anthology...unfortunately they're both on vinyl (i inherited my folks record collection) and my turntable cartridge isn't worth spit

he's also a driving force on derik and the dominoe's layla album...ever wonder why the guitar work at the end of layla sounds so good? it's not just eric, but duane too

and key to the highway is simply brilliant

The music of that time included the Doobie Brothers also, and so many others. I've tried to listen to todays "rockers" but I just can't. My own son plays bass with a local band called Bind. I guess they're good, 'cause they have gigs most weekends now, but I just can't make it in the door, even with my hearing aids turned off!:D
