Taking this from Freya's clingon thread...she wondered what you think is the best way to break up with someone and this took different twists based upon gender.

I am just curious...if someone were to break up with you...how would you like them to do it? What kinds of things would you want to hear?

Similar to what a lot of other people have said here, I'd like to be broken up with using gentle, caring, respectful language and behavior. After the breakup, it would be good to have a couple of airing out meetings when we could discuss issues more objectively (because there is always hurt to get over first and that means objectivity is not immediately possible).

Ouch, ouch, ouch. There's no getting around it. Life and love involve risk and pain-- how we handle it can make all the difference in our healing.

Hmmm, I would just like to hear the truth. Whatever it may be, just spill it. No bullshit, no pussyfooting around, no "sorry, babe, I've been sooooo busy" just the fucking truth. You wouldn't think that it would be all that difficult. But apparently for some, it is a huge hurdle to overcome so they don't even try...just disappear.
