Endless Ends

Boring ramble alert. :p

Interesting interview on sociopathy with a clinical psychologist who is, herself, a sociopath. Almost 50 minutes, but worth the watch if you're interested in that kind of thing.

Anyway, she talks about the masking and such she learned as a child, and how, rather than demonizing the condition, how therapeutic intervention, in the form of coping mechanisms and normalization, would go a long way towards circumventing anti-social and criminal behavior.

I find sociopathy is a curiosity. I have a couple of neurodivergent diagnosis that I've mentioned on occasion. One is HSP, which, while not clinically opposed to sociopathy, does sit on a different of the emotional and sensory spectrum.

The concept of normalization and integration of different mental types, rather than stigmatizing what does not fall within a rigid norm seems so . . . productive.

Too, the vast majority of the population sits somewhere on some scale. Why not play to individual strengths. 🤷‍♀️

Also, why do vampire movies always have this point in time where, all of a sudden, the hero (or whoever) decides they must charge in - at that exact moment - and eradicate the vampire/s, and that exact moment is always:

"It will be dark soon,".

I mean, it's practically a prerequisite for a vampire movie. 🤷‍♀️

Does it not occur to anyone that it would be just a smidge smarter to, idk, wait for morning?

But noooooo, it must happen right now, at this very mote in the time continuum.

Let's just abandon all logic here, people!!!

Totally agree! "We ride at dawn!" seems to be a far smarter option.

So, I have a reasonable - if someone archaic - vocabulary.

Yet, I am terrible at crosswords. I mean, like truly terrible. 🤣

Scrabble, too, come to think of it. 🤔

I really do not know why I suck at either of these endeavors.

Anyhoo. This bothers me. I have purchased one of those ginormous crossword puzzle books that start easy and increase in difficulty.

Maybe I'll bloom some new neural pathways.

I mean, in reality, probably not, but - 🤷‍♀️

Last Man on Earth.
Vincent Price does it right. ☀️

I do all right with scrabble - but…

You will. I find I have to switch up brain games after a few months - I did sudoku, then crosswords, unscramble, and back to a sudoku game. Because my brain learns the patterns and starts remembering common words in crosswords and they get easier.

Do a crossword a day for six months. You’ll see.

The sheer number of lackluster movies and books that exist still manages to surprise me on occasion. The number of people railing against whomever that their work is not properly appreciated - or enumerated - does not.

My biggest problem with crosswords is that my spelling is horrible. So even if I get the right word, if I spell it wrong the words it intersects with do not make sense. Also thinking a noun is meant as a verb. or visa versa

My spelling is pretty solid. I'm not really sure what my issue is. It may be a difficulty with lateral thinking. I do tend to be so literal. 🤔

What's with the Wow face, @hotwords229_A?

I would have thought you'd be the first to agree there is a lot of dross in film!
First, I had to look up dross, I thought that was a typo.
Second, I found your point to be a little confusing—you are surprised at the amount of crap films and the even greater number of people who complain about them?
Or am I reading that wrong? 🤔

Oops! Autocorrect.

Should have been remunerated! 🤣

So you’re surprised by the number of people defending said terrible movies?
On this I agree, I suppose, I don’t really think about it too much. 🤣
No! I'm not surprised by the number of subpar offerings. I am surprised by the number of people who get pissy about not being appreciated, or about people not buying, the subpar work they themselves produce.

*above said as someone who appreciates certain kinds of subpar. 😜

I am also surprised at how what I thought was a simple statement became so entirely confusing. 🤣

I am currently watching Underwater (2020).

Scifi adventure horror. It's one of those movies that must be watched in short little increments, interspersed with doing other things. Because it's way too intense for me to watch through. Way.

I feel this is perfectly reasonable approach to horror consumption. :p
I think this might be the only approach that would work for me watching a horror movie on my own.

So, absolutely reasonable!
