I will be so if I wish to and I think it is appropriate - in this case I believe it is. As I said, I do have experience in this problem domain because I make my living developing software and content (including video). I have probably written, read and interpreted more license agreements than you will in ten of your lifetimes, I have studied the subject, and I have consulted with local laywers who specialize in copyright, trademark and other intellectual property law as part of my job.

So if they add a tax to blanks CD's and tapes to compensate artists for losses then how can they claim stealing when they have received compensation allready?

This was pre-CD. I don't know that there's anything about CDs in the law, just tapes.
Maybe they'll re-write the laws so that we have to pay more to buy a computer based on the storage capacity it has for music now, too. That would be in keeping with the VCR legisllation.

You haven't provided a justification of why you should steal software. You also haven't provided any examples of companies that have "ripped off the public" who haven't been already punished by legal means. Finally, the only company mentioned that was a software company was Microsoft - and I replied that they are already paying over a billion dollars in fines.

This started as a response to Killswitch's thread about stealing Photoshop from Adobe. How is Adobe ripping off the public or breaking the law?

I wanted to jump in with what I do ............... I have downloaded computer programs such as Corel draw ect. to poke around and check them out. When I am done i go out and buy it so I can get updates, patches, and tech support.............as well as the books as someone else has mentioned.

I tink it is nice to do but it is wrong. At work we pay thousands of bucks for our Sign software and when you do you get a dongel to run it. It will only work with the dongle in place the problem is there are tons of "Cracked" programs out there you can get the same thing for free.
Your also at risk for downloading something like a bug that you don't want on your puter.

As for the storage issue they want to do that in Canda for portable MP3 players.

So, you're a businessman? Not really likely. At least not one that's giong to be successful. Theives are generally caught.

If it's just personal use, not for resale, then I suppose so. But it might be limited to music only, for example. Or software only.
It might be worth your time to find out.

Hunting & driving liscenses, for example, have a lot of restrictions on them.

That being said, for those of you who steal from Microsoft, you can google warez group postings of registration codes if your copy doesn't have one.

Records too. And movies.

Although I'll send the band or artist some cash if it's someone I really like and I've downloaded a dozen songs.
