Not sure about the legislature, but West had millions in out-of-state PAC money backing him and outspent his opponent by quite a bit. If you ask me he lost re-election because he's a crazy person.

JBJ has a small point. The Rapepublicans thought he was such a strong nationwide candidate that they allowed his district to be diluted with more Democrats in 2010, so they could be more competitive in other west Florida Congressional districts. They thought his name recognition and national funding would carry him.

They obviously miscalculated.

Probably true. West was a media and far-right darling, but drew too much attention to the "The GOP has gone f*****g insane" image. It got in the way of actually carrying out f*****g insane policies while nobody was watching.
