My cheap-ass AKORN with the IQ-110 controller has run for 14 hours on one load of lump and chunks, and still had enough fuel to do steaks the next day. I'm not one to leave a charcoal fired appliance running freely on a wood deck on my house, so I don't do longer smokes.

Yeah, those komado cookers really keep their heat well once they get to temp. Pretty handy for you, when cooking during the chillier months, I bet.

A friend of mine has a green egg, but he just doesn’t take the time to learn about his cooker. He constantly overshoots temp, and then has to wait for the thing to cool. As I said, those suckers hold heat so well, and those big ceramic eggs take a while to cool.

I’m looking at the Akorn and considering it, as I don’t have a komado unit and would like to get one. I’ve read good reviews, and you’ve mentioned a few times that yours is serving you well. Half the price of Green Eggs too!

No wine, tonight. Too much jet lag. The AKORN goes on sale for about $269 at Lowes fairly often. Too many people think that they need to get all their coal lit quickly in a kamado when all they need to do is get the top piece of coal going in the pile. Also, the heat deflector is an absolute requirement for cooking low and slow.

It will be another warm day here. In the mid 70's. We think that's pretty damn hot. Tomorrow evening, the rain will start and all the tourists who had hopes of seeing the mountain will be disappointed. At least, they can buy t-shirts and other shit from the seasonal vendors who don't really live here.
