Salon: The 7 smartest, classiest porn sites

Literotica.com remains an interesting anomaly among erotic websites. Is its current design stuck in the last decade? Most certainly, though the previews I've seen of its next version sure look better.

Equally interesting would be Lit's very loose posting criteria. Spell most of your words correctly, include both nouns and verbs in nearly every sentence, and stay within the relatively few posting guidelines (minimum word count, nothing under 18, etc.) - and nearly anyone can see their story posted.

Does that result in a lot of chaff and very little wheat? Certainly, but it's also one of the things I find enduring about the site. It's a huge thrill for many wanna-be authors to see their work accepted, posted, read, and (sometimes, inexplicably so) well received.

I applaud Literotica.com limiting advertising to a banner ad or two. It's both quaint and highly appreciated. Like many of the stories it hosts, Literotica.com remains simple and direct. Kudo's for being mentioned in the Top 7!

Sometimes, all you want to read about is a guy named Red boning his entire family (or, maybe, that's what you wanna write about.)
You search for it, Lit has it. That's why it deserves a good spot.
Although, the main site's design can be improved a little. But it does its job- it's not distracting and easily gets loaded on any old device (compared to the flashy other sites you find elsewhere).
I liked the design of FetLife but it was really difficult to navigate- Lit in comparison is much easier.
Sooooo all in all.. I feel Literotica should be higher on the list :p

Disappointing that they could only come up with seven to list.

I'm not sure whether the list is meant to be ordered by quality, or if they just put those sites in some random order. How do you compare a text site to a video site?

We're the only text site in the list, so that's something to boast about!

I presume only hetero sites were considered.

None of the sites are exclusively gay sites. On the other hand, most of them do (or probably do) have some gay content.

1. Hysterical Literature
The site is about female sexuality and not necessarily straight or lesbian. It offers twelve short videos of women of various ages and ethnicities sitting at a table and reading a selection of their choosing while someone unseen under the table distracts them with a vibrator. They all reach orgasm, and they're quite lovely while doing it.

2. I Shot Myself
This is a collection of self-shot photo essays with an accompanying narrative. All of them I've seen are of women. Some may be lesbian.

3. Audio Porn
A collection of audio shorts. Some of these are of men.

4. Beautiful Agony
Head-and-shoulder videos of people masturbating to orgasm. Both men and women.

5. Literotica

6. Make Love Not Porn
A collection of user-submitted videos of real people having sex. There are lesbian couples, but I saw no gay male couples. The rules don't prevent gay content, so I suspect it's there.

7. XConfessions
Short videos based on submitted concepts. Some of the concepts I read could be hetero or not, depending on how they're shot. I suspect there is bi and/or gay male content.

XConfessions has plenty of F-F and M-F-F type content.

It has one video that's categorised as "gay" (IIRC it's mostly if not all about a guy sucking on a penis-shaped icy pole). This one in production will presumably be M-M.

A couple of group scenes in "queer" that I think include a bit of M-M contact, but those are still mostly M-F and F-F.

So, yeah, some M-M content but anybody who buys a membership just for that is going to be disappointed.

It's a couple of years old, too. I remember reading this a while ago.

Oh yes, definitely, I was wondering about that too (how they are comparing a text only site to something like Hysterical Literature)
