You can split kindling that way with a light ax, too. You don't need to use a heavy maul. It's also a fantastic workout.

You need anyone to hose you down and towel you off afterwards? Hot water, of course, don't want any shrinkage... ;)

Awww, the Bambi pics always make me sad.

But I guess this is men doing men things thread....not men doing what I want thread ;)

He was calm and relaxed when he was harvested unlike a lot of meat we eat from grocery stores, healthier meat as well.

I eat mostly fish - we all know they have no brains ;)

I get it. I actually don't like killing. It makes sad. But i do feel good about the end result. The way i look at it is that this animal had a great life and then one bad moment. Compare that to a chicken in a factory farm, a steer on a containment lot, or a hog in a gestation crate, and the animals i put in my freezer look pretty good. I eat meat and I'm not in denial that something had to die -- animal, bird, fish -- so that i have food. I'm not being preachy or knocking anyone who wants that separation. It's just what I'm about.

Well, I posted I eat a lot of fish - I just don't want anyone sending me a picture of it intact first ;)

I need my separation between animal and food (like church and state, but not as political).

P.S. - And R2D2, er BCJ4, knows I'm just yanking his chain. :cattail:

I tried to find a recent shot or two of me with clothes on doing normal stuff and sadly fell short of the mark. I'll have to take a couple. Until then here's a shot someone took a couple of years ago on a business trip.

Cheers

Holy. Fuck.

AF: I thought we already talked about you sharing my pix without my consent!:D

Around the 1850's timeframe, a smidgen of gold was found in the creek near my house. Now I'm not one to let legends die, I pan for gold whenever I have idle time. No color yet, but I do find tale-tale signs of it, black sand and quartz. I shall endeavor to persevere.

^Want. Do. This. Now.^

I was asked if I'd contribute a shot, so here is one from a backpacking trip, 10 days in the Wallowa Mountains.

Hunky hiker ;)

Older pic, but it's me and Porkchop.

Nice Avi too

This thread is ace :)

It is ace indeed.

This is well said... the kill is the hardest part. But I make sure my animals lead the best life, and meet a quiet end... I figure my quietly taking out a hen when she never saw it coming is far less traumatic than even getting caught and killed by the neighbor's dog or a coyote or a chicken hawk.

In return for their favor of feeding my family, I do them the favor of providing the happiest life I can give them.

Also, I can't eat an animal I've raised unless I've known that was it's purpose from the start! I get very attached. And when hunting, I have to in my mind find something about the animal that irritates me... for instance, that stupid deer ate half my garden last year, so now... ;)

I realize though that this is difficult for people who aren't faced every day with food with faces, and I try to be sensitive. I do like knowing where mine comes from though.

Good morning, fellas. Nice to see everyone is still hard at work :D
