The special place in hell reserved for Sarah Palin...

Well that is quite true.

But the mere fact that she is a woman doesn't mean she has to think the same way you and I do, any more than Boxer and Feinstein, both female Senators from California represent my views.

The fact that she does not see women's issues as important in the same way I do - in the same way NOW or Eve Ensler or Madeline Albright does - does, in my opinion, disqualify her as a female candidate I would like to see in the White House.

I would want a woman willing to stand up and say she was a feminist and she was a humanitarian. Sarah Palin is neither of those things.

Oh no ?

I'll admit that your contempt is reserved for non-typical Christians, but that hardly makes it any better. Whatever happened to freedom of religion ?

As for the rest:

On the global warming thing, she doesn't think that man has nothing to do with it. She just doesn't insult our intelligence by pretending that global climate change (whch has happened many times before) is all down to one cause or another.

Dealing with the Russians does provide limited foreign policy experiance. Not to mention which, she's also the commander of the Alaskan national guard, which is currently in Iraq. I'd imagine that writing to grieving parents would concentrate the mind on the whys and wherefores of military action.

As for attacking her family, well, I won't grace that with a reply.

I think you miss the point.

The new way of doing things here on the General Board is to only accept comments that agree with the OP in each thread. If you disagree, you are a cut-and-paste wiki fool or you have diarrhea of the mouth. Discussion is no longer accepted here -- only "yeah-yeah" rallies.

I want to be governed by politicians who are more intelligent, and better educated than I am, but who care about people who make less money than they do. I am convinced that most Democrat politicians meet that description. I want to be governed by cultural elitists who are economic equalitarians. With the GOP we get economic elitists who are cultural philistines.

I don’t care if a politician drops by one of the working class taverns I patronize, buys all of us drinks, and talks about the local sports teams. I want to know if his economic policies will benefit those of us who cannot afford to drink at country club bars.

I agree, wholeheartedly.

I want to be governed/represented by someone more intelligent than I. I want to vote for the best and the brightest to lead the country. But, I want that intelligence to include the recognition of helping all individuals, economically and socially.

Seriously, Bert, she can't even quote a Starbucks cup. I'm not arguing the validity of liberal vs. conservative ideals here, I'm arguing that ANY viewpoint has a better spokesperson than Sarah Palin.

Oh come on, overreact much? So Paris Hilton or Hillary Clinton (who took Bill back after cheating on her several times) didn't embarrass you as a woman? This is the worst thing you have ever seen?? Sheesh! All the candidates’ hands are dirty; they have all distorted the truth or lied one way or another. Biden himself has plagiarized speeches in the past. The word “ support” or “ help”, I guess one can make a case out of it but really, give it a rest.

Exactly. Now, that's not to say that the local working class stiff can't aspire to political office, but it involves educating yourself, through EVERY outlet available.

Mccain can't use the internet... Palin doesn't read newspapers...

I mean, come on... People seriously think that that's normal for a political candidate?

So what are they?

I'd say that the economy has got to be number one.

That's why Palin helped McCain to face down the neo-con free market fanatics and push through a rescue package.

As a Mom, Sarah knows that people's homes and families are more important than ideology.

Then I'd counter, if what you say is true, by saying that her fundamental lack of economics is the reason that Mccain voted for a bill that not only contains pork (something he said he'd never vote for), but does nothing to help People who are at risk for foreclosure and families. Families are going to pay for the bailout of wall street, banks, and foreign investors, to the tune of about 3.5k per person.

I'll have to ask the grocery store clerk to be sure though...

Right now it is the economy and thats why McCain really needs a new strategy or this thing could be a blow out.

He's trying a less effective version of Hilary's strategy...

How did that work out for her?

Maybe he got "tactics' and "strategy" mixed up? He is old after all...

Absolutely correct, and that is why we saw the start of Operation Change The Subject yesterday, with Palin going all-Ayers, all-the-time.

That 3.5K a person isn't going to be taken out into the street and burnt. It's going to be used to buy assets which are likely to appreciate in value.

The alternative is that the free market fanatics get their way and the 'market regulates itself' by crashing and burning and destroying the livelihoods of millions of Americans.

Thank God the GOP has Mavericks like Palin and McCain to kick some sense into it !

As for the pork thing, you're right. McCain said 'no more pork' but then he voted for a bill which was full of it.

Still, the fact that he was prepared to do the right thing depite knowing that it must hurt his ambition was a good thing (without the pork there would have been no bail out).

Whoever put the pork in that bill should be shot. Wooden arrows?? Who the fuck put that in?

There was no accounting of what the assets were in the bill.. Therefore, I'd say it's fairly safe to say that they are indeed worth nothing...

Again, this bailout does nothing to help working class families, or those in positions risking foreclosure. It bails out wall street and banks for their mistakes, and helps foreign investors.

it's a travesty that it passed, against so much opposition from congress' constituency.

Bush and the treasure wanted a bill passed "quickly!" because "too much is at risk!" and that's what congress did... Remind you of anything? Maybe... the WMD situation?

I honestly have never felt embarrassed to be a woman before. Sure, there have been women (Melanie Griffith on any talk show comes to mind) that make me cringe because they are such stereotypes. Sure, I have lived in cultures in which being a woman made you a second class citizen. But I've always thought hey, it was their problem, not mine.

Until today.

Hey, are you embarrassed for this; who put the pork in the bill???

That includes, as the New York Post pointed out, millions in tax breaks and related pork for kids' wooden arrows, Puerto Rican rum producers, auto race tracks, and corporations operating in American Samoa. (The likely explanation for the latter: StarKist has a large tuna-canning operation in American Samoa. And StarKist's parent company happens to be located in the district of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.)

I don't believe this shit. People are defending her quote as being a simple misquote - "support" instead of "help".

Nobody wants to acknowledge that she was saying those who don't support her will be going to Hell.

Now, Gov. Palin has established herself as a believer in many religious concepts, including Heaven and Hell. She claims to be concerned with regular folks. She claims to be willing to reach "across the aisle". But her remark exposes an attitude of disdain for those who don't support her, which current polling suggests is the majority of Americans.

Maybe Borscht or miles or Karen Kraft can tell me why that isn't an important issue.

Sure it helps working class people. Saving the economy helps everybody.

Plus, if the economy crashes, then working class families will suffer the worst. A family losing their house is a lot worse than losing a fat cat losing his end of year bonus.

As for the assets involved in the bail out, nobody knows if the taxpayer will make a profit or a loss. Even so, it is wrong to imply that none of the bail out money is going to be recouped.

Maybe YOU can explain why it was OK for Madeliene Albright to say it, but not for Sarah to quote her as saying it.

Do you set the bar so much lower for Albright because she is a Democrat or because she is unattractve ?
