Invitation only events

Anyone can. Almost no one does, because it IS a hassle. You have to set the theme, get commitments from other writers, sometimes poke and prod them to finish in time, etc. Hats off to randi for running as many as she does.
The way to get me motivated to do anything is to tell me that I can’t. That or promise chocolate. Ideally both.

Without knowing the topic? Tentacle porn / lesbian piss-drinking crossovers seem to be in the lead.

Do you honestly think that would slow me down?

The one I had considered, though, was "New Horizons," having newer writers on the site with fewer follower (possibly with a few "big name" ones) write in categories they either had never worked in or only rarely worked in.

I would write that.

That’s actually not a bad idea

I wouldn't be in a hurry to cook something up just to do it, if I were you. It's not like we have a dearth of events and contests.

It's OK, Millie. At least, the event organizer didn't refer to you as "a vile creature, hardly human." Your chances of getting invited are quite a bit better than mine, I reckon.
Oh her. I used to think I might be interested in reading her shit. Too hard to work up interest since I've seen some of what she has to say.

The Simon thing and the NTH thing, don't recall if there were others but you know, I just remember reacting negatively to the statements of hers I've seen and I don't recall seeing any I reacted positively to. Just the Simon one is plenty enough of a baseless and nasty personal attack for me to feel comfortable with my conclusions.

Never conversed with her personally.
Never bothered to check whether what was written was true....
Yeah, guess you'll fit in well.
Just believe the rumours and what other people say...
Does that sound familiar...
BTW, there are some terrorist organisations looking for suicide bombers. Apparently it cleanses the soul. They say so, that makes it true.
Don't believe everything you read in here... BTW, that's only my opinion.

Didn’t mean for this thread to lead to arguments. People can have different perspectives. It’s the weekend. Let’s chill 🕊️🕊️🕊️

My encounter, six years ago, was very unappetizing, to choose words carefully. I've never had anything to do with her since, wouldn't want to.

My view is that all site sanctioned events should be Open.

If folk want to run their own groups, good luck to them, but don't ever come in and say, "These are the best writers on Literotica," when all it is your own Favorites List. That's what annoys me, the exclusivity. But then, the subject matter... who cares?

There seems to be a variety of experiences / opinions of the lady in question (feels kinda familiar). It wasn’t my intention to get into discussing another member.

Maybe we could drop that aspect.

Here in AH or somewhere else? I've never seen her post in the time I was here. Some other board?

She’s not on the forums often. I’ve had exactly one direct exchange with her (and that’s being generous, since she didn’t respond back), and she accused me of plagiarism while acting butthurt that I’d written extensively about LW as a category. You’ll pardon me if that’s somewhat tinged my (and others’) impression of her.

BTW, there are some terrorist organisations looking for suicide bombers. Apparently it cleanses the soul.
Yes. This is an perfectly sensible comparison. 🙄

A more apt one might be the old joke: “Why are office politics so vicious? Because the stakes are so small.”

The “thing” between me and her (which was mostly a one-sided rant about her opinion that February Sucks follow-up writers are plagiarists with a tone/side helping of “how dare you have success in LW/on Lit without my imprimatur”) happened over in Story Discussion. It was mostly sill high school level nonsense, but it sounds like there was nastier stuff that happened before I started posting/writing here to other people. I have no direct knowledge of that, though.

It's an annual thread cycle, where new members ask, "What's with these invitationals?" and the same answer comes up, every time.

They're divisive events, always were, always will be; but people, quite reasonably, keep asking the question.

We are pretty tame here, aren't we? 😄
