The problem is not dressing provocatively. The real problem is not assessing the risks of the real world that we live in. Here are a couple of hypothetical scenarios:

Scenario 1: Gorgeous woman in a super-revealing dress having a night out in NYC with a few girlfriends. They go to a huge nightclub and have a fun time dancing. Multiple men take notice of the super-hot woman as she drinks in moderation and eventually leaves with her friends at the end of the night.

Scenario 2: Very similar to scenario one. The only differences are that the super-hot woman gets sloppy drunk and leaves her friends to walk back to her hotel that's a mile away. It is approximately 3AM.

Scenario 3: A bar in New York City. Bill Gates walks in. He chills out at the bar for an hour or two nursing a few drinks while chatting with the bartender about Clippy and Excel. Afterwards, his driver takes him back to his hotel.

Scenario 4: Similar to scenario 3. The differences: Bill Gates comes in already buzzed. He opens his briefcase and it's filled to the brim with 100 dollar bills. He announces that he's buying rounds for everyone. Hands a big wad of cash to the bartender in full view of everyone. Proceeds to get drunk while loudly showing off his new $500,000 swiss watch to the bartender. At the end of the night, he drunkenly shuffles out of the bar to walk back to his hotel.

Which scenarios place the woman and Bill Gates at greater risk for rape, assault, and/or robbery? In a perfect, utopian society...it wouldn't matter. The unfortunate reality is that we live in the real world, that utopian society doesn't exist.
