It's really disappointing when an OL relationship ends. I'll be the first to admit my communication skills aren't perfect, but I did try to be upfront and direct. It doesn't work when the other person doesn't feel comfortable enough to say I'm ready to move on. Maybe they've learned it's easier to keep it minimal. Who knows? Then if your schedule is limited or mismatched, that doesn't help.

Ghosting happens on all fronts, men and women, but I do think there's probably a high percentage of more innocent ghosting, that's just like...texting. I'll text a friend, we'll go back and forth, the exchange will slow down, I'll later see a response but I'm busy and can't reply right away, and then I accidentally forget and other texts/thoughts fill up the queue, and suddenly I haven't texted them in a few months. It's not that I don't want to talk to them, there's just a finite amount of mental energy and sometimes things get jostled around. It's also why I try to be understanding if there's somebody I'm interested in and I've been talking to and it sort of falters away. Maybe they fell off of me, maybe they found something else, or maybe the real world just got in the way.

It does start to hurt when it's been a real long-term exchange that ends suddenly, where it seems like you and the other person had grown really close, which is much more in line with the OP. That's rough. When I've had that happen to me or been a part of that kind of situation, the reasons behind it are usually dramatic or complicated, and would have been difficult to distill down to a simple answer.

Never ghosted anyone, always give reasons for why I won't be communicating any more, but that is very seldom, compared to the CONSTANT ghosting by women, many, many women!! In fact about 99% of women who I've Personal Messaged with back and forth have ghosted me. Almost ready to give up on Lit.
