I write porn (don't think the term "erotica" applies to my stuff) and post it on Lit.
Sadly, I rarely find the time to read what others write.
My wife has read a few pages of my writings every now and then, but it doesn't do much for her.

I've written a couple of stories, have intentions to write more!

I get too distracted reading!!

I read and write (which I should be doing now -- writing, that is). I write strictly for fun and only when I have time, which isn't nearly often enough to suit me. So far I've only got two stories posted. However, I've been absolutely amazed at the positive feedback I've gotten from Lit readers and I have no complaints about the site. Hubby is always free to read my stories although he tends to be considerably more vanilla than I am doesn't share my fascination with gay/bi men. He'll read up to those passages though :D

That's more than I'll do. I won't touch a story containing slash. I've nothing against gay people, but I don't really want to read about it. I'm not even a fan of the MFF stories. Go figure.

I read, mostly.

However, this passed week I wrote my first erotica, which I just sent in for submission last night.

With that said, if anyone here is an avid reader and doesn't mind giving constructive criticism, I'd love to improve. :)

I tend to read what my friends have written but not much else and I have written some which is posted elsewhere.

Alyx and I both write, but not erotica, although some of our stories do have sex in them from time to time, they are more of the fade to black variety.

As to reading erotica, most of it I find unappealing and badly written. I prefer a story to have a plot and the sex is incidental to the plot. That seems to go against the grain of most writers of what you find on lit.

I don't mind the occasional romp through erotic writing, but I am tired of reading about impossible situations and infantile statements like;

"He thrust his steamy man-meat into her quivering honey pot."

I'm sorry, but this isn't erotic, it's funny and sounds like a recipe for something really awful.

edited to add:

You didn't include a "I write, but not erotica" to the poll so I didn't vote.

Bob, I know we've conversed before--was it here? I've spent most of my time in the Authors' Hangout, and seldom ventured outside it. I write erotica. People who like well-developed characters and plot and backstories and baroque detail tend to like my stuff--others complain that there's too much between the juicy parts. I call those people stroke purists, and figure they just need to find a different type of story to read.

I started reading the How-To section, stayed for the rest, tried my hand at writing, then found the boards. And I have time for none of it.

I really love this place!

I love reading erotica and have read extensively. Literotica is one of the best sites i have visited for quantity and quality of stories. My husband writes erotica and has at least six stories on the site in various categories.
I read a lot of stories and try to let the authors know whether i enjoy them. I dont pass judgement on those who write stories i dont enjoy as I know someone will.
Personally i dislike stories written in second person 'you'. But I know many people probably love them.

I agree than the classification could be more detailed to find the exact type of story you need.
Literotica has given my husband and i many nights of pleasure and adventure together and apart.
I actively encourage him to share his excellent stories with others. For me it is perhaps a sort of distant exhibitionism, sharing a little bit of our fantasies and sex lives with the world.

I like reading some of the stories, though I seem to enjoy the boards more. I write some of my own erotica, but they're more mindless ramblings than cohesive works. They're really just masturbation fantasies that I've typed out for the fun of it to pass some time.

I read and write, although I haven't actually finished a story since I posted my only one at Lit.

I'm hoping to get back into that when things settle down.

And I have to agree with the "man meat" thing. For me, reading (even non-erotic stuff) is a lot like sex. If I don't have an emotional connection to the story, I have no business being there.

I have written one erotic story. I'd like to write more, but just haven't found my muse so to speak. I do enjoy reading though.

I read erotica, and I write erotica for an e-publisher. Currently don't have a partner, but wouldn't have a problem showing any of my musings if I did. It's part of who I am, why would I hide it?

I read when I can (a few stories per week) and write on occasion (a few stories per year).
Do you have special someone to share it with?
The only someone I share them with is my good friend/editor (plus all the literotica readers).
Was your partner interested?
My wife would freak out if she found out I was reading or writing erotica.
Has it played a role in your intimate life?
Writing erotica has been very good therapy for me for thinking about the real issues in my personal life (rekindling marital relationships and fitness). It has also helped me come up with creative ideas to try with my wife for real.

I am an avid reader / wrote a story in the "how to" section but I would not call it erotica.

I have often thought about writing a few stories about my fantasies / encounters but never had the time to complete it.

I find I am more productive with an audience. But I've been reading more erotica since my husband doesn't appreciate my writing -- or erotica in general. (Wierd thing is, he watches porn).

My story

I write erotica and share it at Literotica (or somewhere else), but not my SO.
During a period of separation due to business travel and emotional distance due to marital conflict, I found the literotica website, and reading the posted stories helped keep me sane. Eventually I decided that I couldn't find enough submissions with the exact mix of ingredients that I was looking for, so I decided to write and contribute my own. The writing turned into valuable therapy, and through my stories, I was able to come to a point of peaceful coexistence with some issues that I had kept bottled up in an unhealthy way. I do not share my stories with my spouse, but the literary role-playing practice has improved my real-life communication with her.

I find it incredibly arousing to write erotica and was thrilled to find this website with erotica literature. The process of focusing on your thoughts and organizing them and putting them into words really intensifies the arousal for me. My wife reads a LOT, but has a mental block with doing any kind of creative writing herself. I read a moderate amount, and enjoy writing erotic stories. It’s been an fun medium to explore and share fantasies. I haven't yet submitted any stories here, though my wife has offered to proof read.

I write quite a lot of erotic stories and poetic short stories [long poems] and even erotic ghost stories believe it or not
