As to reading erotica, most of it I find unappealing and badly written. I prefer a story to have a plot and the sex is incidental to the plot. That seems to go against the grain of most writers of what you find on lit.
I don't mind the occasional romp through erotic writing, but I am tired of reading about impossible situations and infantile statements like;
"He thrust his steamy man-meat into her quivering honey pot."
I'm sorry, but this isn't erotic, it's funny and sounds like a recipe for something really awful.

You didn't include a "I write, but not erotica" to the poll so I didn't vote.
I read when I can (a few stories per week) and write on occasion (a few stories per year).DrHappy said:How many people here actually participate in erotica, either reading or writing?
The only someone I share them with is my good friend/editor (plus all the literotica readers).Do you have special someone to share it with?
My wife would freak out if she found out I was reading or writing erotica.Was your partner interested?
Writing erotica has been very good therapy for me for thinking about the real issues in my personal life (rekindling marital relationships and fitness). It has also helped me come up with creative ideas to try with my wife for real.Has it played a role in your intimate life?
During a period of separation due to business travel and emotional distance due to marital conflict, I found the literotica website, and reading the posted stories helped keep me sane. Eventually I decided that I couldn't find enough submissions with the exact mix of ingredients that I was looking for, so I decided to write and contribute my own. The writing turned into valuable therapy, and through my stories, I was able to come to a point of peaceful coexistence with some issues that I had kept bottled up in an unhealthy way. I do not share my stories with my spouse, but the literary role-playing practice has improved my real-life communication with her.I write erotica and share it at Literotica (or somewhere else), but not my SO.

I find it incredibly arousing to write erotica and was thrilled to find this website with erotica literature. The process of focusing on your thoughts and organizing them and putting them into words really intensifies the arousal for me. My wife reads a LOT, but has a mental block with doing any kind of creative writing herself. I read a moderate amount, and enjoy writing erotic stories. It’s been an fun medium to explore and share fantasies. I haven't yet submitted any stories here, though my wife has offered to proof read.
