In the wake of the horrific shooting, I keep seeing a couple memes continually present themselves
one of them is the truly deplorably sick attempts to blame politicians for this
the other was something that raised a curious eyebrow
that being " we need to lock up dangerous people"
except, when do we definie them as being dangerous.. and are we to punish someone for crimes they haven't yet commited
case in point in my own back yard
Kayla Bourque looks like the girl next door, she was a 22 year old student in residence studying criminology
she is also a sexual sadist, a narcissist and sociopath
at the begining of last year she confessed to another student her fantasies of killing and torture, she described how she would wander the streets of skid row with a concealed gun relishing the thought of just taking it out and killing a homeless person
she also had a " kill kit" in her possesions; garbage bags, serrated knives, needles and razors
she even confessed to filming the torturing, maiming and butchering of familly pets
the kit was found, the gun was found, and the videos were found when the student reported this to the school, and psychiatric experts were called in
she went to jail for the crimes against the animals, but was just released
yes, she has requested supervision so that she never acts on these thoughts, but in the end... she is a serial killer waiting to happen
so what do we do with her?
she has killed no one, been punished for the crimes she actually commited, and is in full control of her faculties
what do you do with someone who is a nightmare made flesh... but has done nothing?
lock her up? that would be draconian and allow a slippery slope to imprisoning anyone an administration could deem as " dangerous"
