The point of that very small thread starting statement was to point out that Europeans in general and many on Literotica's Author's hangout, have chastized the Bush administration for such things as profiling Arab looking people as potential terrorists.

Further warning that the many items in the Patriot act would result in the loss of personal freedom and individual privacy.

I think Charley is chastizing the Earl in that he appears to make the same argument for increased security and precautions, such as deportation of suspected terrorists, as has been made in the United States following 9/11 and are now being made in GB following 7/7/05.

Not being or playing Devils Advocate, but since I have had an FBI file on me since the mid 1960's; have written and published a book advocating the use of force to overthrow the government of the United States...even Amicus becomes a little concerned when they decided to extend and make permanent those laws included in the Patriot Act and Homeland Security.

I think most of the measures are necessary to provide as much security as possible but I am not comfortable knowing they are now permanent measures.

I also flinch at interviews with both Republicans and Democrats who insist we must have a National ID card and that Mandatory National Service for two years should be required of every citizen when they reach age 18.

I read but did not post on the thread concerning Intelligent Design, another attempt by the religious nuts to get creationism taught in the public school system.

Even as a study vairous religions it should be reserved until the college years.

Faith of any kind cannot be allowed in public institutions if we are to maintain separation of church and state.

(Now youse guys can be mad at me and not each other. Okay? Deal?)

Blair announces new U.K. deportation measures

British Prime Minister Tony Blair announced plans today to expand powers to deport people who foster hatred and advocate violence.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Blair said he was prepared to amend human rights legislation if the new deportation measures give rise to legal challenges.

Under the European Convention on Human Rights, to which Britain is a signatory, it is not allowed to deport people to a country where they may face torture or death.

"Let no one be in any doubt that the rules of the games are changing,'' Blair said.

Blair said Friday that new legislation -- which he hopes to pass by the end of the year -- would see people refused asylum if they are found to have been involved in terrorism.

The legislation would target people who received training in terrorist techniques in Britain or abroad. Clerics who preach hate and web sites that sponsor violence, such as those offering instructions on bomb-making, would also be targeted.

One possible cleric who could be deported is Syrian-born Sheikh Bakri Mohammed, who reportedly once referred to the September 11 hijackers as the "magnificent 19." He spoke out against Blair's plans Friday.

"I think this is the same system, the same method of Kaddafi, Mubarak and Saddam Hussein, so they're going to be seen by Muslim youth that [Blair] is nothing more than a dictator," Mohammed said.

A one-month consultation will be held on new grounds for excluding and deportating people from the United Kingdom.

Blair's comments come just over one month after a series of blasts on London's transit system killed 56 people, including four bombers.

Suspects ordered detained

The wife of a suspected London bomber and her sister, arrested in connection with the July 21 London bomb probe, were ordered held in custody until a hearing on Aug. 11.

Yeshshiembet Girma, 29, the wife of suspected bomber Hamdi Issac, and her sister, Muluemebet Girma, 21, have been charged with failing to disclose information to police about Issac. They were arrested on July 27.

Issac, also known as Osman Hussain, was detained in Rome last week. He is accused of trying to bomb the Shepherd's Bush subway station on July 21. Britain is seeking his extradition.

The only other person charged in the botched July 21 attacks is 23-year-old Ismael Abdurahman. He is charged for failing to disclose information about Issac.

Police in London have another 14 suspects in custody over the failed July 21 attacks, including three of the suspected bombers. A fourth suspected bomber is being held in Italy.

Meanwhile, al Qaeda's deputy leader Ayman al-Zawahri threatened that more attacks may be on the way, and said Blair was to blame for the recent bombings.

"Blair has brought to you destruction in central London, and he will bring more of that, God willing," Zawahri said in the tape, which was broadcast Thursday on the Arab all-news satellite channel Al-Jazeera.

Zawahri also offered a truce to Britain if they withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan. However, Middle East expert Wayne White said those comments are a sham.

"The goals of the organization and people who are inspired by it go well beyond Iraq and Afghanistan," White told CTV's Canada AM.

"They basically want the West to remove itself from the Middle East/South Asia region; they want a number of regimes friendly to the West to be toppled."

Now, British citizens want to do the right thing too, follow the crowd, support your government. Because if you don't, you're labelled a criminal and terrorist collaborator and will be treated as such. And the police WILL execute you, just like they did to Meneze. Make no mistake people... It's already happening Now.

Ok, mass book burnings, because they teach sedition... Oh wait , Websites, thats it...

However, before the Government that you voted in begins to seize your financial assets because you're a terrorist collaborator... Quick, Kill 'em all!!

Your warping of world history to fit your political manifesto is offensive to anyone who has studied history. Not that I expect you to care. Deporting foerign nationals who are advocating violence against the nation they are staying in at the pleasure of that governement compares to Nazi attrocities not at fucking all. Even comparing moderate security measures to the actions of the German government under national socialism downplays the horror of that reign to a degree that borders on farce.

From what I undestand, Blair is advocating deportation of immigrants who advocate violence against the British people and government. I don't have any problem with that at all.

As I recall, it's a federal crime in the USA to advocate violent overthrow of the government, and conspiring to do violence is also a felony. Immigrants who are convicted of a felony are subject to prison and/or deportation, and this has always been the case. I don't have a problem with that either.

What I do have a problem with is giving the government permission to search my library and medical records, my financial history, and whatever else they feel like looking at without first demonstrating a just cause, informing the courts as to what they're looking for and why they think I might have it, and obtaining a search warrant. The permission to do all these things is implicit in the Patriot Act, which can thus be used to harass people and go on fishing expeditions into their private lives, 'looking' for anything they happen to find. That's why I oppose it.

Initiate moderate security measures today and then it slowly escalates into mass deportation tomorrow.

Nazi attrocities? Sure that's what it was when the whole world saw it at the end. Yet when it was happening at the begining, Who did anything to stop them??

I make no apologies, I see disturbing parallels with curbing current Human Rights and Civil Liberties and Freedoms in exchange for increased security measures at the price of deportating foreign nationals.

On my monitor the font is pretty big, on everyone elses it's very small.

I am confused how this is. Because I get frustrated with very small fonts as well (my eyes ain't that good... Trust me).

It looks as if you are purposefully setting it to (size 2)?

I believe the default font is size 3. You shouldn't have to do a thing but type and it will come out a bit more readable.
