The Winter Holiday Contest Support Thread

Now, how can I have 4 views on a story that is stilling the pending status? Who's looking at it, and how can they see it?

When's the closing of this contest, cuz my count hasn't changed all day?

When the editors open it up (for various reasons of their own) before posting it, their view will register. I've noticed this often happens when it seems "they" (probably just a she) are going on vacation and setting up more than the next day's listing.

I initially thought they were sharing a wonderful story around the office--because I noticed this phenomenon on the first four stories I got green Es on. But no such luck on later repeats of these preliminary reads.

Wow! You have four green Es? You constantly impress me, Pilot. Its just an edit I have pending. Maybe they are looking to find out what I changed before they post it, but the editor's looking at our stories shouldn't be in the count at all. Their ID should be exempt from the count.

This will have to be something that Scouries can straighten out with them in the future. :D

Umm, no. I have seven. (But who's counting? And I certainly hope JJ isn't looking. :D)

And whether an editor's opening of the story is in the count or not, that must be where the count goes up before it posts. What other explanation could there be? Darkinaid?

If you haven't opened it again via the "pending" link, then it's editor views. The only other way that could increment the counter that I know of would be to append the Lit ID# to the story URL and open up the "not available" page that shows when a story hasn't yet been approved or has been rejected.

I'm pretty sure that hitting that page counts as a view, because I can't imagine dozens+ of views a day on a rejected/pulled story incrementing unless it was people who bookmarked it coming back to it, only to find it's no longer up.

And I know that happens, because I have one that I pulled but didn't ask to be deleted. It's still technically on the server, but unavailable, and picked up hundreds of views per day for a while.

This is not so much a complaint as a comment, because I truly don't understand the process of the contest. My first Christmas story was trashed horribly. That is understood, the topic wasn't everyone's cup of tea. I wasn't going to post anything again, but a second story came to me and I hitched my pants and hit submit.

This second story did great. I had a 4.86 rating for a while and then settled into a 4.78. Only 4 of my comments did not rate it at 100%. Of course, I can't see the other voting. In the past 10 days I've dropped to a 4.60, with no negative comments. How can a story which was doing so well, and for which I received over 20 pm's and emailed messages congratulating me on a wonderful Christmas story, all of a sudden fall into the toilet? Is there a way to deliberately vote down a story? I thought you could only vote once. Are the ratings on the comments taken into consideration?

I don't know that I'm looking for answers, but to see it fall like that is very discouraging, especially since no one is offering comments on their negative votes.

Thank you for letting me vent.

Ok Leg. LOL Took this from the Q & A on Lit.

Why does my story have views when it's still listed as pending?

Whenever you (the author) or the Literotica editors open a submission form, it registers as a view on your view counter. If you check your story or poem 5 times, you may notice that it shows it being viewed 5 times in your author profile. This does not mean it's being read by readers. The story will only be publicly available once it has been "Approved".

Voting ends on th 14th which is Monday.

Thank you, DG. I will try to use the Q&A screen more often. I know there's alot of good information there. Believe it or not, I have actually taken the time to look up stuff. I did not look at my pending story, so it must have been the editors looking at it four times. I'm going to allow you to call me Babs, DG. You are such a jokester. Thanks for your help.

And, the 14th is soon I know. Not working, I lose track of dates and days of the week, too. Hell, I'll have to look that up, too.

Thanks, Dark. All helpful trivia to store away for the future. Appreciate it. :)

Seven! Woohoo! Don't think JJ can miss this now, Pilot. :D I never knew all this stuff about the views. All of you guys have been very helpful. Thanks so much. :rose:

OK, Leg, I'll call you Babs. LOL No need to go through the trouble of looking everything up. That's why they have old guys like me around to look up stuff, hand and Leg for you. I'll make you one of my people. Now I will have two. You and Bianca.

Always happy to help.
DG:)

Um, DG. I think if I have you doing all the looking up for me, then you would be my people, not the other way around. Let's just be equals and help each other out. I would like that better.

Okey, Dokey Babs,
Got hit with another sweep. Took story one down to 411 votes, from 452. Story two only went down about 12 votes to 532. Average score went down on both of them. Story one Lost it's H. Oh well, all part of the roller coaster express.
Good luck all.

Gee, I only have a 132 votes and the more votes I get, the lower my score goes. I don't think the hoover has hit me, but mine has only been there for week. Somebody else complained about their red H's disappearing, too. That sucks. Sorry.

It's OK Bab's the story is at 4.49. H might return someday. No biggie. Second story is now down to 527 votes. No change in score. This will probably be the end of my reporting for this contest. I won't win and to much for the last place award.
Congrats to the winners.

Apparently, the Hoover did its job this morning. My score increased by .10 points and the vote total decreased from 59 to 55. I am still not even close to winning anything.

This was a romance story, a category which tends to get few votes, but the characters have been popular among readers in the past.

:[ my score has only gotten worse. Hopefully after the contest is over and people aren't worried about winning 150 bucks it might get better... :[

How does a story get an E? I'm not sure I've seen it explained anywhere.

One of mine in the contest is a romance. Right now it has 253 votes and close to 11,000 views.

The second story is in non-erotic, has 185 votes and a little over 7200 views.

I have a total of 19 stories/chapters in romance. The highest vote count before this story was 114.

The submissions editor (who has access to all of the stories as they post) awards an E to stories she thinks are especially good (for whatever reason she has).

This is the 14th, and I thought the voting would go on until midnight EST. That's almost two hours from now.

From the contest rules:

We will announce the 3 winners on December 14.

Maybe so, but I just now copied this from the home page:

12/15 - The Literotica Winter Holidays Erotic Story Contest is now closed to new submissions, but you can still read and vote on all the fun, sexy holiday tales!

Right not, it is twenty minutes after midnight on Dec. 15, EST.
