The Winter Holiday Contest Support Thread

Thank you for all of your support. I have plenty of votes to get me through a couple of sweeps. Y'all can stop putting in your three and four votes for me, now.

Now, how do you think I should address the anonymous public comment that I received because they didn't think my story was written very well, but they, themselves, omitted a word in their sentence? I'm sure they must be very embarrassed to think that 12,699 people have read their gross error in the past two days.

And, I'll apologize here publicly to all of the Santa's in the group for making them sound like a bunch of drunks. It was just a joke. I know for a fact that Santa is a jolly olde elf, but it's his helpers you have to keep an eye on. :D

Interesting, a couple of more stories got posted. Now we have 127 stories posted. Must have gotten hung up in th queue.
Lots of good stories that I've read. A few others not my type but I only vote on the ones I read and like. I don't low-ball anyone.
Looks like I'll end up with my usual 'in the middle of the pack'.

Good luck all.

I'm sure some take longer to be reviewed and approved, even if they did submit before the deadline.

I think I'm still waiting for my first troll sweep. Er, at least, I hope I am.

they put it in the contest anyway!

thank you dear QUEEN :cattail:

EMILY'S XMAS MILK

On the third try it was accepted. Frankly I didn't think it should have been rejected in the first place but thats life. I tweaked it (maybe changed a total of ten words) and it was finally accepted.

And while the third sumission was theoretically late our compassionate leader took pity on me and allowed it in (I think).

Another unfortunate thing about this story is that it fell over into a third LITEROTICA page in its final presentation and many readers will miss my final words.

Maybe Emily's Milk was jinxed from the start. Mind you it's sales have gone very well in other outlets so who knows.

Good luck to everyone entered in the contest.

There was not a means to vote, however, you get a definite 100 from me! I now have to check your bio and see if you have written anything else. Hope so. Can't wait to read your next entry.

I enjoyed your story. I have enjoyed your other stories also. I would give it five stars but they were not at the end of your story.

WHERE THE HELL WERE THE VOTING BUTTONS? When I looked they were there... I'm willing to bet that mr tex is behind this...

Glad to see your story got posted Jim. Sorry to hear about the voting mishap. At least your fans still get a chance to read your story.

Had a small sweep go through today sometime. Lost about 6 votes on each story. One went down .2 on the ave.
Story #1 still has 447 votes
Story #2 has 541 votes.

Jimbo, you're getting screwed and not in a pleasant way. I couldn't vote, either. WTF?

But then he wouldn't get any votes, and loose by default?

Well, sure. He would finally get the contest win he's always been after--the coveted contest last-place prize. He probably turned off the votes on purpose. It's not something the editors would do to him. He claims he gets royalties from the site for his stories; they'd hardly sandbag a story they were paying for.

no the voting was turned on!

I never check the votes/reads of a new story for the first 24 hours (superstition) and so it was only five minutes ago when I logged on and checked. I was pleasantly surprised - by the VIEWS, by the COMMENTS and by both the VOTE total and the RATING.

I'd known from the SOL vote totals (and e-mails) that this one should do well here but the emails claiming they couldn't vote had me worried. The vote toal is the biggest surprise (one of the highest first day vote totals I've ever received on a story!) - now I'll have to wait to see how many are lopped off in the SWEEP butchery to come.

The problem was how the story was formatted - it ends at the bottom of page two but because I'd written a note at the end of the story that slipped onto page three the voting buttons are on that page. Hence someone who gets to the end of the story won't see the buttons unless he/she clicks open page three.

Thank you everyone for reading, voting, commenting and e-mailing - its appreciated!

There were no stars for which to vote upon--only little circles that didn't work, either. First it was three pages, then it went back to only have two pages. The whole thing was weird. Sounds like you don't need any extra help, anyway. Good luck in the contest, it was an excellent story, as usual.

Ah, when the three circles show up instead of stars (the circles being the old format), that usually means there's a glitch in the system itself across the board. It isn't just with that story. Interesting that no one else reported the problem though--and it looks like in Scouries case the votes registered, they just didn't show as having done so.

I’m not sure if you’re serious here or not. I think you may be trying to pull the scourian leg…

I didn’t notice it either! When I looked the STARS seemed perfectly aligned. But of course at least eight other people noticed it (that’s how many have so far advised me by email that they weren’t able to vote.)

Another oddity is that the story doesn't show up on the MOST READ (in the past 30 days) list. Theoretically it should be there...

Gee, I don't know. As you claim the site is paying you royalties for your stories, it just makes no sense at all this is happening to you. ;)

With a couple of days to go I got hit with a couple of small sweeps. Story one went up a few tenth's while story two went down a few tenth's. Voting ends Monday. I expect some more sweeps.

I've lost less the 15 votes on each story. Maybe they are getting a better handle on the voting.
Good Luck all

One of my stories apparently had a small sweep too. The score went up .07 but the vote total stayed the same, at 58. Some bad votes must have been swept and some new good votes must have been cast. My other story didn't change much, and I can't tell if there has been a sweep or not.

heh! same here, well, almost - lost a few votes and gained a couple points (.05 or so) in rating...

Will .Lit publish in some way, the full results? or just the top 3?

Troll sweeps, eh?

I guess I must have been the victim of one as well. My story was sitting at 4.70 or thereabouts and now it's at 4.56. Sigh. No comments or anything, and the votes/views have only increased. Not exactly in the holiday spirit, is it?

Jim and my friend, the Pilot.

Hey, I'm not an idiot. I know what I saw and what I was able to do and not do. The thing was fucked up and I never got to vote. I'm not joking--it's the truth.

Now, Jim is a friend, too, but for some unknown reason, I really like kissing up to the Pilot. Might have something to do with his

They only publish the top three scores. The other scores are available as indiuvidual stories, but you would have to dig them out of the indexes.

But by the time you check on the other scores, they will have changed drastically (either that or the site is manipulating the winner scores).

Box,

Thanks for the info.

I wonder how the votes are 'normalized' to account for the varying times the different stories have been up. It seems a no-brainer that a story posted toward the beginning of the submission period would have more votes than a comparable story posted 'Johnny cum lately';).

Just thinking out loud.

The earlier posted story might have more votes, but it is the value of the votes that matters. 25 votes, each of 5, would win the contest. Any number of votes more than 100 is bound to have some lower ratings in the mix.

Over time, a much longer time than the length of a themed contest, the rating of all stories tends to drop slightly, no matter how many votes it has in total.

Of course, any winner of a contest is likely to be hit by troll votes as soon as the result is announced. That is why the Authors' Hangout Last Place (tm) Contest counts the rating at the time the winners of the main contest is announced. If not, the winner of the main contest might also win the Last Place (tm) Contest if the rating is taken 24 hours later.

Now, how can I have 4 views on a story that is still in the pending status? Who's looking at it, and how can they see it?

When's the closing of this contest, cuz my count hasn't changed all day?
