The Buffy thread, so as not to spoil the 'If they wrote porn'

She was ugly, her hair was a mess, she was clumsy and shy and seemed like a nitwit!

:p

You have a bizarre taste in women, Earl.

She was ugly? Seriously? She had beautifully sleek hair and her eyes were so deep and soulful. Plus when she did one of those sudden smiles, it lit up her whole face.

Added to that is the wonderfully sweet and sensitive personality that goes with it (yes, I am aware she's fictional, sadly). Do you remember the scene in the dorm room in The Body, when Willow was distraught and she just held her and supported her and kept her going.

There are more classically pretty women, but I personally think she's beautiful.

Well, "moooo" then. My eyes have been called soulful; although I'm sure it was a line. ;)

I agree that physical attributes play a part in attraction, but I've been attracted to men that other people don't really think are particularly attractive; they were beautiful in my eyes. If it's not the total package that draws you then it's shallow, or hero worship, or possibly stalking.

Just sayin' that looks aren't everything.

It's okay, I have no problem with the smart folks breeding and the pretty folks breeding. Darwin kinda called it that way anyway :)

I watched the first 5 seasons of buffy in about a week just a little while ago and I have to agree with Earl about Tara. She was very beautiful and sweet and i can see what Willow saw in her.

And people with beautiful features can be quite disturbingly ugly. It's the whole aura of a person that makes them beautiful.

Are you telling me that you've never looked at someone whom others might not consider stunning and marvelled at just how gorgeous one of their features is?

I can't see how anyone can pick people out on their failings, to say that someone's not pretty because of one feature. I find it much more productive to sit and stare at her hair, or her lips, or the way her face warms with each smile. Maybe it's not very XY of me, but I can't call someone ugly for one flaw when they have so many gorgeous areas.

Tara isn't quite as gorgeous as the other "scooby" women. But she is quite cute.

Compare Tara to Kennedy. Kennedy was hot, but her personality did almost nothign for me. She was manipulative, rather selfish, power hungry, and occasionally immature. Tara was tender, giving, generous, etc. Yeah, she often was in the background and could be called "dull". The nicest people often are.

Tara's the sort of woman you can build a life around. Kennedy is a hot lay.

Try "about every other guy I've slept with"...

And it's not ONE feature I don't like about her, it's everything. Her looks are just ONE of those things. You think she was sweet, I think she was ugly. You think she was nice, I think she was dull.

If the whole package makes me think she's unattractive and uninteresting, would you call me shallow to my face then, yui?

Let's keep ourselves calm on this. It's just a friendly discussion at the moment, rather than an argument and it'd be nice to keep it that way.

[/Can'tWeAllJustGetAlong?]

That's fair enough. It's obviously an opinion thing as I can't understand how anyone couldn't see any redeemable features in Tara. but then again, I only have experience of my head.

I wasn't implying you were shallow, Svenska; it was a general sort of you.

My apologies if it appeared I was taking a shot at you; however, yes, I would have certainly told you, to your face, based on your initial posts, that there was more than a hint of shallowness in your words. I understand you were being flippant, and I don't want any ill will between us, but I can be, if pressed, as straightforward anyone. :)

Given your follow-up, no, I would not call you shallow. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions about what is beautiful; it's simply easier for me to swallow someone saying "they're just not to my taste," than going on about how ugly someone is. That is my hang-up, not yours, and it has made me take your words more seriously than perhaps you meant them.

Luck,

Yui
