Over the years I have earned much more than she has, but in about 20% of those years my business has made either nothing, or substantial losses, whereas she has earned consistently at a pretty significant level. She has also given birth to four children and been the primary carer of six.

All the earnings go in one pot. No personal debt, good income and asset position. Seems to work, maybe we have been lucky.
