Who the hell wants them? At Walmart, we have a "NO Return" policy for books, because the pages are bent...And, Tom Clancy is just TOO technical for me. If I'd known that beforehand, I wouldn't of bought them. I just picked them up because their long, and, I wanted a challenge. I can't even get past page 5 of most of them without consulting my dictionary.

Aww, I enjoy most of his books, but yes he does get very technical. Are there any "used" bookstores in your area? Most of them will accept Tom Clancy books, and you'd either get store credit or cash for them. They're also a great way to buy cheap books :)

Which do you have and which one did you start out reading? I've read most of his books and they all seem a little different. Some start out very slow, others grab you from the first page. Three or four should be read in the proper order to be really enjoyed.:D

Rhumb:cool:

Try to read further into them if you can. Most of them are pretty good, although he can get pretty technical, it is worth the effort.

I have,

Without Remorse,(his only 1 that I can almost completely understand)
Red Storm Rising
Debt Of Honor
Exectutive Decision
Clear & Present Danger
Rainbow Six
The Bear & The Dragon
THe Sum Of All Fears

I think that's it. The only novel I don't have is THe Cardinal Of The Kremlin, THe Hunt For Red October, the Op-Center Series, the Power Play Series, and, his Non-fiction. I read Patriot Games, but, that's because it wasn't so technical, like Without Remorse.

I'd like to be able to finish at least 1 of them, because, I'll feel like a accomplished something. But, when you have to use a dictionary for about every page, it doesn't feel worth it.

Use context clues. ;) Try to not focus on the individual words as much as the sentence or paragraph.

Stay away from the op-center books. They just get too involved in the technical side of things. I hated them.:(

Rainbow six is pretty good.

I've tried that. It doesn't seem to work, very well. Especially when he uses abbr. for just about every single thing. And, the only ones I can understand are CIA, FBI, USAFA. Anyone know if they have Cliff Notes for his books?:D

i used to be a clancy fan too, then i discoved a guy by the name of clive cussler. he actually read hunt for red october when clancy sent it to hiim for his approval. clive is fantastic writer, unique human being, and his books are technical without going over board

Cusseler is good, as is Dale Brown.

Out of all the Clancy books, I found Red Storm Rising the best but yeah, chances are you could lose it in the abbreviations.

I hate to admitt it but while i love Clancy, since his divorce (his wife helped ALOT with character creation and definition), he is no where near as good.

I have been struggling with Bear & the Dragon for about 6 months now.

I keep putting it down and comming back to it a few weeks later.

I'm fickle when it comes to Clancy books... if it doesn't have Mr. Clark (aka John T Kelly) as a somewhat prominent character I don't like it as much.

I didn't realize that Clancy was divorced. But I have noticed the difference in his writing.

Debt of Honor was my favorite, and one that doesn't get "to" technical. (it sure is long though)

The Bear and the Dragon was killer!!

QuickDuck, stick with it. It could be one of his best books. SW, if you are a Mr. Clark fan, The Bear and the Dragon would be a good read. Clancy writes from an insider's viewpoint. I don't think I would like his books as well if he didn't. By using the abbreviations, you become an insider, too. It brings me further into the book.

You think Debt of Honor is long try reading the sequel/2nd part of the story, Executive Decision... thats a 1200-1300 page epic.

Thanks, thats one of the few I haven't read. My favorite Clancy book by far is Without Remorse, Mr. Clark is the most complex character in Clancy's books and it was good to get the backstory on what made him ' Mr. Clark'. ( I didn't read the books in chronological order so I had alot of info on Clark but nothing on his past)

Amen! I like long books, hell I read Stephen King's It, and The Stand (uncut) those were 1100 pages long but Executive Decision was a tad long even by those standards.

I've read both of those as well! But I will admit to skipping alot of the library "history of the town" stuff in It.

I'm the same way with page 100-300 of The Stand once in awhile, nothing real important in there. Just the tales of a few individual deaths and mass deaths.

ED was a long book, but I enjoyed it. The Bear and the Dragon continues the series, and expands it. It rounds out all of his books for me.

The correct title of that book is Executive Orders, not Executive decision.

Thanks Skibum!!

I feel like a fucking idiot. Here Executive Orders is, right on the bookcase beside my computer. I am not 3 feet from it, and I still misname it. It was the movie Executive Decision. I guess I must need to go to bed.

Walmart? In Geneva?

It probably is too technical for you. For the rest of it, the ability to prophesize is simply amazing. To see trends and put them together in an entertaing way.

Next time, try the Harry Potter books. I hear they are very good and probably available at Walmart or Barnes and Noble...

Sorry to be so harsh. But I've read some of the writing here.
