Do you believe you have a right to know what goes on in the private lives of public personas? I heard George Clooney say that he is not a public persona. His take is that only people voted in to office, and payed by our taxes are public personas. I tend to agree with him to a point. I beleive the private lives of our civil servants are still their own unless it interferes with their duty. In other words, I don't care that Bill got a hummer from Monica. I do care that he lied anout it. What is your definition of a public persona? Do you beleive that just because someone is in the public eye, that their private lives are fair game?

It depends on their job and their impact on my life. If a politician is messing around or exhibits poor judgement I think we should know about it. If an actor does the same. I doubt it would effect the movies I see and don't want to hear about it.

Hey...it's me again.

Are you going to be around after Valentines Day or is this a limited engagement?

George Clooney has a right to his privacy...the rest are fair game

This is a tough question to answer. I don't think anyone has a "right" to know what goes on in anyone's personal life. But, whether it's a person in public office, your children's teacher, your preist, babysitter or whatever, NOT knowing can be disastrous.

Cool.

I thought maybe you'd be gone and I was suppose to have told you my Valentine wish or something.

You can still tell me your Valentine wish. Lord_Cupid is the current holiday gimmick, but he has poor eyesight and terrible aim.

A very valid point.

There is really no such thing as a public persona...

Nobody out here in our/your/my public (of which we are all members) has 'a right' to any persona.

However -

Those few individuals - who for whatever reason - find themselves in the 'public eye' - are wide open for public scrutiny.

Public scrutinizing, of those in the public eye - is unavoidable (What? Are we going to blind everybody?) - and should be accepted (not necessarily welcomed) as such by those who are in the public eye.

Clooney's full of shit as he usually is.

So, because he makes movies, we automatically have a right to know who he's schtupping?

Nope - because he is in the public eye...

as long as the publics eyes are open...

they (the public) can't help but 'see who he's screwing.'

It's a simply fact of nature - we see - he's in front of us so we see him. People talk - sew them.

He knows all this - big cry baby.

If he really doesn't want the public to see what he's doing - he should change his occupation. Move away from the public eye.

He's a walking/talking hypocrite - he wants the money, the fame and the chicks - and doesn't want anyone to know it.

It just don't work that way.

You don't believe that their are actors and actresses that act because they love to act? Athletes that play the game because they love to play the game? As far as people knowing things about public personas, like who Clooney is schtupping for instance, they know these things because of the media, and the media reports on these things because there are people who want to know. But just because they want to know, is it their business?
