X-box hasn't had a good game since Halo. Plus it's huge.

PS2 has pretty much any good game you want. Vice City is PS2 only, and worth the money alone.

Having a variety of games available is great.......but what would you rather play them on, a P1 300, or a P3 750.......

The cemetery had more dates in it then ANY address book, but would you want to actually take any of them home to meet mum?

Here's another reason to go XBox - Jacking It. Even though its not necessarily kosher, apparantly the Xbox can be hackedtonot only add a larger hard drive (120GB anyone?) but also to ad mods to the chipset that will let you place emulations from other platforms and the large # of shareware games that have been produced in the "underground."

I may be wrong about this, but if you plan on using Xbox Live, you can't modify your Xbox. If the network detects that you have a Mod chip installed, you won't be able to connect to Xbox Live online gaming.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least - we all know how Mr Gate$ is about his toys...

<irony on>

We should all be absolutely thrilled with what he's provided for us! Trying to make it better only shows how utterly ungrateful we are!

<irony off><serious on>

Admittedly, I may be a bit of a 'sour grapes' person about it (I can't afford any mods, and don't have a broadband connection :( ), but I'm actually quite happy with the bog standard. It does all I ask of it - I just wish I could afford the games...

Kill ~ the web site is GAME FAQs dot com not fags ... that is a whole different website ...

i'd probably go for an x-box ... but best advice is to just look at what games you want to play and buy the console on that basis

i do also prefer pc but consoles are better for playing for just few mins or with a group of friends

its the whole desk gaming vs sofa gaming thing :)

We all do too much of one thing or another, but too much sitting alone in your room all day, staring at the screen with your mouth open looking like your in a daze, trying to cast a spell, or kill a dragon is wierd.

Yet racking up almost 5k posts since November on a sex board is infinitely better, yes?

I beta'd Everquest, hated it, but the people who are addicted to it are not as sad as those addicted to Literotica (including myself if I come to that).

[Ever heard anyone say..."Hang on a minute guys, I'll just email you my CV, which I typed out on my new X-Box"...?

Can U surf LIT on your X-Box....?

Didn't think so......

I think you spoke too soon: LinuX-box

from sourceforge
An Xbox running Linux is very inexpensive, and useful as a desktop computer, for email and browsing the web from your TV, as a (web) server or as a node in a Linux cluster.

The spec numbers are nearly useless for console machines. A console with 64 megs of RAM will play the same game no differently than one with 32. The game cube's numbers are inflated to look good, a lot of them have no bearing on the actual power of the machine.

That said - what use is a powerful machine if the only game worth playing is Halo?

Spin, if you think the only game on the Xbox worth playing is Halo, then you really are uninformed.

:) Agreed regarding Ram, although the site I dragged that from was a gaming site so I would have thought the figures for the game cube were accurate, but haven't checked them....

that said, the CPU figures are accurate, and drive the graphics as well as giving the capacity for greater complexity.....so I don't think spec numbers are completely irrelevant.

Example:

Direct quote from Code Masters game designer Pete O'Donnell talking about an Xbox version of V8 Supercar Race Driver in comparison to the PS2 version already released...
"The power of the Xbox will allow for massively increased draw distances, increased texture sizes, greater coulou depth and detailing such as fully modelled wheels. The extra processing power also allows for more dramatical particle effects, V8scrd will now support Dolby digital Sound 5.1, where as the Ps2's best sound output was Dolby Pro Logoc. The Xbox version will also play higher quality soounds and samples, enabling reverberation and environmental audio effects to be played throughout"......

He goes on to say that the Xbox version will have up to 20 cars on the starting grid, making the racing more realistic, as the most the Ps2 could manage was 14......

I am sure the PS2 is a great console, I am not knocking it at all, but the power and range of the Xbox is what sets it apart for now....

And as Semmler said, Halo is worth the price of the xbox, but there are many more great games available.....

We have:

Halo 5 stars, we all love it
Project Gotham Racing 4.5 stars great multiplayer
Sega Gt2002 4.5 stars, I enjoy this one
Jetset radio future, ? stars, but my daughters, 12 & 14 are addicted
MechAssault, 5 stars, great game, good multiplayer too
Buffy, ??stars, but akasha is hooked!
Splinter Cell, great game again, very complex, haven't got into yet
MOH Frontline, slightly dissapointing, should have got the PC version of this one
Lord of the Rings, crap

.......

:D Bored yet........

didn't mean to go on, just wanted to get my point across, which I had obviously failed to do previously!

It's the only good one that you can't get on the PS2.

OZ ... how does Splinter Cell compare to Halo .. I've been considering Splinter Cell as my next purchase

Ahem ~

there are a few games that you can not get on the PS2 that are X-box games ... not only Halo but ...

Blinks
Buffy
Crimson Sea
Dead or Alive both the fighting & Sim/Volleyball games
House of the Dead 3
Murokamo

Hey at lease 1/2 my collection of X-Box games are only available on the system ... (yes there are more games that I have listed but these are the ones that I have played/owned personally)

It's a totally different style of game, it is very good, but where Halo is a full on shoot 'em up, splinter cell is more of a stealth and skill game...... not unlike the old playstation metal gear solid, just richer.....

If you are after fast and furious action, it's probably not the game for you, but it is very involving and good in it's own way.....

Wow. There really isn't a game on this list that makes me go out and buy an X-box so that I can play it.

Talk about a headache

Just gimme the good old days when it was Sega vs. Nintendo. When it was what bit system (8 vs. 16) instead of CPU clock cycle speeds, RAM, media, etc... Sonic vs. Mario. Phantasy Star vs. Final Fantasy. Vectorman vs. Donkey Kong.

I yearn for the good-natured rivalry those two had, before Sony came in and fucked everything up.

OK - I bought an Xbox last weekend and I love it. I spent a lot of time playing Dead or Alive 3 and Jetset Future Radio - what a blast! I've also ordered Panzer Dragoon Orta but haven't tried it out yet.

I bought the advanced AV pack and got the High Definition working which is great but I forgot to by a Fiber Optics AV cable for the 5.1 surround sound - I hope to get that working this weekend when I get home.

If you own a Xbox, you MUST get Halo. It is such a good game.

Congrats!

I'd recommend Shenmue II, but it's pretty time involving and a very long game. Not everyone's cup of tea. Good, deep story though.

I second flawed's motion.. Very cool game!

I own an Xbox and am very happy with it. I actually use it alot more to play the 29 hours or so of music I have stored on it.. The memory capacity is amazing.

NFL 2K3 rocks the house as well...

I am pondering this same question, but it is between XBox and PS2. Likely PS2, so as not to support the evil corporation.

Nintendo has produced only inferior systems after Super Nintendo.

Both Halo and Shenmue 2 are really great games. Halo did win game of the year and not because the cover to the box looks cool.
