Yes - that's something I thought of... the Xbox is the newer technology and its got Microsoft muscle behind it. I'm guessing that over the next couple years (before the next generation boxes come out) we're going to see more and more games for the Xbox and more games that take advantage of its powerful features and the net/live connectivity. So while it might have less games then the PS2 right now - as time goes on that inequity will probably go away, at least for the newest games.

OK - here's another question... there seem to be hundreds of accessories for the xbox from AV bundles to HDTV bundle to numerous controllers and all sorts of stuff. Which of these are worth getting? (Again - I don't really care about any of the DVD stuff since I've already got a high end surround sound system with DVD).

Well, I know that the original XBox controllers were/are considered too damn big and clunky. When they released the XBox in Japan, they released a smaller controller that is now available here as well. If you prefer smaller conrollers to bigger ones, then look into that.

If you loathe cords, consider a wireless controller. I know the GC has the best wireless there is, but since you're going for the XBox, you might have to look into that. Consider it's battery life and if the batteries are rechargable.

It probably comes standard with AV jacks, but if you have S-Video capability for your television, you might look into purchasing an output cord that supports it. Same applies for the HDTV.

Peripherals are a want more than a necessity really (except the power cords, audio/video outputs, and controller(s)). If you like to go for the gusto, then there it is.

If you are going to go with a bundle pack ... go for the free games/extra controller.

Since you seem to be leaning towards the X-Box .. you have to buy the S-video cable separately, and unless you do, there is no DD 5.1. They sell the Advanced pack for that and also the Advanced gives you S-video or a composite connection and 5.1. Hi-def is for component and 5.1 only.

The games and controllers would cost more than the Advanced pack or the Hi-def pack. The packs are cheaper.

BUT as for the promise of 50 Online games available ... I would not put too much stock in that. Things do tend to get pushed back for release ... just ask Ms. Croft about her newest game release.

:D

She isnt real....she is just a character on a video game.

You all need help.

Seek it out.

OK..my two cents worth.

A good mid-range PC still has them all licked.

After all, the X-Box is only a Celeron 733 with 64mb of Ram, an NForce graphics chip and a 10 gb HDD in a fancy box.....its pretty much a PC in its own right.

The humble PC can do all an X-Box, PS2 and GameCube can do, plus a whole lot more besides.

Ever heard anyone say..."Hang on a minute guys, I'll just email you my CV, which I typed out on my new X-Box"...?

Can U surf LIT on your X-Box....?

Didn't think so......

And, with the right emulation program, your humble PC will play all the games, no matter what Console its from.

I've been playing Halo on my XP2000+ system for a while.

Consoles are toys....always have been, always will be.
My flatmates son has one,( X-box) I've never been on it, but the strange thing is.....I get asked everyday.

"M***, can I play **** & **** on your computer?"

Go figure

Regarding PCs. That's why I've held out so long - I've always felt that my PC is better than any of the consoles. Its got a faster processor, 140MB of hard drive space, 512MB Ram, GeForce 3 Video Card, Soundblaster Live, fast cable connection to the internet and the ability to play on-line games, etc...

BUT - when you're playing games on the PC it can't be used for anything else. Also, it doesn't hook up to the large screen TV and it doesn't really allow for more than one player/controller.

I don't like the current bundle pack because the 2 games offered don't really interest me

This confuses me. Are you saying that if I get the Advanced pack I get the Hi-Def and 5.1 along with everything else?

And yes - I'd definitely want the S-Video hook up and the ability to hook it up to my surround sound system as well.

I can't decide which one to get. Which has the best graphics? Best games? Best features?

I've read some reviews. I know that the Playstation and GameCube have a lot more games then the XBox but the quantity doesn't interest me so much as the quality. I'm not going to go out and buy a couple hundred games.

I know the Playstation has a DVD built in but I heard its pretty basic - and I already have a top end DVD player so that feature doesn't make a difference to me.

XBox can connect to the internet via Ethernet (cable modem) I believe. I like that feature a lot.

What else? I'm not sure. Please let me know which one you would choose and why.

Thanks!
If it is interactive entertainment you seek Dillykins, you know where I am . :D

Oh, and pertaining to the topic, Rooster has a PS2 and an XBox (against my better judgement) and he likes the XBox much better. The graphics are better, it loads and processes much faster, the online playing capability, and better selection of games. Lately the PS2 only offers sports type games, and he would rather play action shotem up games. Halo kicks ass. ;)

Maybe if your man wasnt playing with his toys, he'd be playing with your's, and you wouldnt have to seek interactive entertainment with someone else?

Just a thought.

FYI he hasn't even turned on either one for at least 2 months and we both seek entertainment from others to spice things up. Dipshit. It is called OPEN.

Yeah.....I know all about open......what it usually means is lackluster at home.

But who am I to judge.

And here I was gonna apologize to you for being so harsh because not everyone is open and your statement would be very accurate for many.

Assume what you wish about my homelife, but I am very content.

Just for the record ... I have never played Tomb Raider, nor ever intend to.
It was a joke.

You need to see a proctologist about getting your sense of humor out of your ass.

The advanced pack allows for up to an S-video connection and includes a toslink hook up for 5.1. The HD pack allows for an S-video AND a Component connection as well as the toslink for the 5.1 connection.

I would imagine you could still buy the necessary hookups the advance pack provides seperately, in case you can't find said advance pack and have to settle for what I guess would be the 'standard model'. Correct me if I'm wrong. (The pack would just be more conveinient and cheaper, right?)

i'd rather hae a challenging game than something with just good graphics~not that an xbox would be a bad thing...just that i think pc game are the best.

PS2.
While XBox might become the premiere gaming system, by that time it will be PS3 vs X2

well, seeing the latest post, I'm back with my humble opinion once again...
the comment was made that while XBOX may become (as if it's not already) the premiere game system, by that time it'll be X2 v P3.

here's my rebuttal....X1, BLEW AWAY PS2, speed, power, and graphix, and as more and more gamemakers see the potential there, more will either jump ship from PS2 or at least stop exclusive contracts with Sony...

By the time X2 comes out, Sony will NEED PS4 just to keep up. You gotta remember, Microsoft is recruiting every hardware maker in PC land to help create the drives and processors for the next gen XBOX to make it that much better. The rumors have it that the next gen xbox may almost triple the power of the current system. and seeing as how the current system has 1.5X or more the power of PS2, I think Sony will have to really and truly ramp up R&D just to keep on the same playing field. I don't doubt that sony will continue to put out a better product than Nintendo as they have for in the last two generations, but I think the XBOX and it's future generations are going to steal console gaming from the competition....oh and if you don't believe me, look what microsoft did for the PC OS market....yeah yeah, antitrust and deregulation rulings may change things, but since it took 20 years to get there for software, I'm guessing MS will get it's own good 20 year or so run at console gaming before anything happens there ...

Here's another reason to go XBox - Jacking It. Even though its not necessarily kosher, apparantly the Xbox can be hackedtonot only add a larger hard drive (120GB anyone?) but also to ad mods to the chipset that will let you place emulations from other platforms and the large # of shareware games that have been produced in the "underground."

X-Box is without doubt the most powerful games system available...it has more power, a better frame rate far better graphics.

The only area where it falls behind a competitor is in the games released for it...... but there are 160 of those available now and at least another 5 to 10 being released each month.....ho many do you actually want to play???

Halo alone is worth buying the system for......we have only 8 games for it at this stage, and will buy more as we see the need or feel the desire.....

I spoke to a lot of people in the gaming industry before I bought it and they all recommended the x-box over the PS2 and all sniffed at the game cube.....

Most gaming magazines recommend the x-box also.......

Whatever you buy, have fun with it, we love ours, although it only gets played about 10 to 15 hours a week.....

I agree glam, but only for the sort of games that require high intensity graphics.....like age of empires, dungeon seige, etc....... for a smash and crash or a shoot em up....... the console is typically easier to use and better designed, particularly for multiplayer.......
