Beauty is beauty, it doesn't need to be broadcast. The snow capped Rockies are a beautiful sight, too beautiful for words, broadcast their magnificence doesn't add any value. No one needs to tell me a Mastepiece is one of the most beautiful things in the world, it just is.

PDAs are boastful, and full of "look at me attitudes". Be in love, be beautiful together, if I notice, I notice, if I don't the love is still there. And to a degree, PDAs can be a struggle for those that want to be in a loving relationship but for some reason aren't.

If I have that love, I feel no need to let the world know, the world isn't there when I'm holding her hand, or when we cuddle.

Maybe I'm Eastwood in Gran Torino, but it is my lawn...

Yes, it's your lawn, but you ASKED people these questions. Again, you've made your opinion known about the answers. IMHO it's time for someone to lighten up. *going back to my own lawn*

Got an answer that proved your theory wrong so you do a poor Eastwood impression? Your lawn's got weeds by the way.

Ms Jenny - you are correct, I do ask questions. And for the most part, I let the thread wander about as the participants see fit. Sure, I'll occasionally try to keep things between the rails, but it's for the greater good. But could you tell me how "Love you baby doll" contributed to the question of the day? If there is value there that I just don't see, I will a) be grateful to have seen things in a new way and b) will apologize profusely for my misidentification of that **SPLOTCH**

I didn't see a "love you baby doll" only a ditto. Chained's you're wielding the old PDA stick-in-the-mud again!

I'm all about telling the people I love that I love them be that friends, family, lovers, whatever. I don't give a rats arse if anyone else is offended by my love or my expression of it. Love should be clear and expressed if you ask me (I know you didn't but I don't care about that either!!! :p ).

The notion that you should hide it away because for those not in love seeing people in love can be hard is just ridiculous to me. I buried my first child once and all around me were people with their babies all happy and full of life and joy. I didn't spite them because because they got the happy ending and I got to bury mine. Yes it was hard to be around and to cope with but it's reality and reality is hard on all sorts of levels, hiding joy away is no way to cure that hardness.

You never know when it might be the last time you get to say how you feel and I won't be silenced, damn it!!! :D

Also... to the original question.... love at first sight, I don't believe in it. Except that one time I met Hugh Jackman before he was famous. THAT was love at first sight and it's been never ending. *dreamy sigh*

Post 2844, page 114 bottom line

I'm sorry for your loss, Rainshine, and while I see the comparison, a real life scenario like that makes all of this seem trivial.

It's late, and I'm west coast, so it's even later for everyone else out there, and by morning no one will give a fuck, but I'm chiming in.

Not to pick sides here, but I don't believe Chained ever gave his "theory" on the topic, but just made it clear, as we all know, that he's not a fan of PDA on threads. I don't get why that deserves chastising.

I'm not one to publicly declare anything around here, but that doesn't make my connections any less real than anyone else's. To each their own.

I think I could put a good wager on those two having never posted in the thread probably not feeling welcome to do so again.

It's late and I'm even earlier than Sam...night all.

Butterflies, candy canes, unicorns, and the Holy Grail. Things we could discuss but it wouldn't be as meaningful or as passionate as the topics we usually discuss. I love the discourse that goes on in this thread, and the freedom that people feel to share their thoughts. From time to time things might get a little ramped up but I'll take that over apathy.

So for today's topic, let's discuss the virtues of abortion. JUST KIDDING EVERYONE, I'm not that crazy.

Actually, what are topics that you feel so passionate about you know it's best to not engage over them on the boards. Politics, abortion, fidelity, all things that most try to avoid because the passion on them run so deep. For me, gay marriage would be a topic I avoid. I'm in complete favor and know that trying to convince someone here at Lit wild be a pointless exercise.

What's your hot button topic.

(Please note, we won't be discussing the merits of these particular things)

Politics for sure.

I'm quite passionate about politics in real life, and my politics have seeped into a post or two here and there, but it's a bad idea for me to engage much further.

I once mentioned on my pic thread that I was watching a specific news channel (and it wasn't MSNBC or FOX, so I naively thought it was OK to mention) and several people went nuts. It was the most benign comment - I just said I was watching news on lunch as I posted pics - no further commentary, but I got severe backlash.

So yeah, no political discussions for me. And oddly, I seem to attract men of the opposite leaning on a routine basis around here. Go figure.

Just to be clear, I am all for PDA's.
Hubby & I are that cupple that you see cuddling in aisle 3 at the grocery store. IMHO love is such a beautiful thing that it SHOULD be shared. It makes people smile, and remember. Nothing bad comes from sharing your love (except STD's wear a condom people!).

Sorry....that was something I wasn't supposed to discuss?

^^^THIS!

I'm losing friends constantly at this stage of my life. My parents will be soon. You HAVE to tell people that you love them...often.:heart::heart:

(wondering if I'm gonna be banished from this thread)

Yeah, politics are always a touchy subject. Even though I have my views and opinions I tend to avoid political discussions altogether. My experience is that one side has an opinion, the other side has the opposite opinion, people just argue loudly and everyone involved walks away passed off. There's value in discussing things if the mood is right (maybe not on a sex chat board lol), but it can be tricky, is what I'm saying.

General intolerance. Is that really a hot topic button? Maybe not, but it certainly pushes my buttons.

Hmmm. I guess I’ll go with politics. Not that I’m all that politically motivated, but my ideas belong to a political minority. Which seems to mean that everybody hates you. Get’s old.

My two cents...on pda's....for what it's worth.....
There are two kinds of it in my mind. That which makes everyone around you wish you'd get a room and that which is just one person affirming their love for another. The first makes me uncomfortable and the second doesn't.
This may be tmi...but since I've known my hub he refuses to show any affection in public....so much so that he usually walks ahead of me. No hand holding...no peck on the cheek....nada.
Same if we have company. Over the years this has done damage...irreparable. I don't want huge pda's but small ones are nice....like treasured and sandman.

I was out with a group of people a few weeks ago and most of us heard a husband say to his wife......I can't wait to get you to bed. It wasn't shouted...but it wasn't secret. He stole a moment when many were chatting, looked in her eyes, squeezed her arm, and said this sealed with a kiss. It could have been "splotchy' as chain says...but it was so real that it didn't feel that way....at that moment I 'll admit I even wished I had a moment like that.

Anywayyyyyyyyy....hot topic I try to avoid..
Breastfeeding....as a mother who breastfed three...it's amazing the emotion and controversy it stirs up....
Religion.....I'm a church dabbler....I've probably been to a dozen different types...studied many different types because I'm fascinated by the history of religion....my mom thinks I'm going to hell. I've learned to never bring these topics up first...

Politics and religion both fall into that category for me. I have some well-formed views on issues presented by both, and I'm happy to talk about those with individuals in a positive, constructive and open-minded spirit.

On the boards, though, I've seen discussions on those sorts of topics descend rapidly into vicious and unthinking tribalism, dominated by individuals with the most strident and persistent voices (and often also the most dogmatic, inflexible and ill-informed viewpoints).

There's no point in trying to have a debate with those people.
.

Hot Button Topics: I'll discuss anything as long as it's an actual discussion. I don't get overly emotional about any subject. But I do enjoy watching the flame wars of opposing sides. Seeing how people respond to a differing opinion is the easiest way to see the real person hiding behind their keyboard.

I hadn’t really planned on chiming in on the PDA, but ^ pretty much sums up my views.

This v, however is what prompted me to comment. Personally, I’m rather reserved, but I attract men that are very affectionate. Touches on the arm, surreptitious hugs, brushing back my hair, just touchy feely in a general kind of way. I've, on occasion, been a little embarrassed, but it’s amazing how many people - men and women - have come up and made some positive comment when witnessing their behavior. Like, “It’s so nice to see someone actually displaying affection.”

That said, the thread is Chained’s backyard….

Religion!

The big no-no topic for me is definitely religion. I have my own views on it, and if you are religious they WILL offend you. So I keep them to myself. Unless you try to shove religion down my throat... Then I fire a warning shot across your bow. And if you still don't shut up I will give you one more warning, then I will unleash some stuff that you just can't unhear. My beliefs tend to shake people's religious foundations  so I really, really try to keep them to myself!!

No no! Tell us how you really feel, Collar! :D

I probably should have tossed in religion too. I seem to be in a minority group on that as well. And don't get me started on the separation between church and state.

There are topics that are usually not to be broached, especially politics and religion. I have my very own opinions about them, like most, and I engage in conversations about them and I'm not afraid to. I am mostly a libertarian so my beliefs follow along those lines.

I find that there are many closed minded people in this world, especially when it comes to those topics..."this is what I believe and if you don't believe what I believe, then you're going to hell." That's usually the religious viewpoint. "I believe that whatever my party does is right and what yours does is wrong" is usually the political viewpoint.
