Most of us guys, how ever awesome we are, are used to rejection on here...so many initial messages go unreplied, even if they don't mention cock, fuck, or wank in them.

I understand many girls have to wade through a pile of shit in their inbox, so who can blame them!

However, after send many unreplied, I don't really find it that nerve wracking anymore!

I never make the first move. Here or in real life.

Same here. I can honestly say I don't have a problem meeting people on Lit, if I really want to. And the same goes in RL.

*shrugs* I don't post much anymore, but it was never a problem meeting people here.

Happy Mother's Day! There's something about the unconditional love between a mother and her child. And yet I would say relationships here at Lit are anything if not conditional maybe even more so than RL. I think we set clearer definitions here for what we want, fail to meet those conditions and it's on to the next. Is my view clouded on this?

Thank you for the happy Mother's Day wish.
Snooker, darts, hamburger and french fries, a wonderful day on a student's budget.

I do weed quite radically through (especially first) PMs but otherwise I don't have many conditions someone else has to meet, I am pretty easy going.
Sometimes I do move on to a next one quite quickly though, because things just don't 'click' with someone.

Good morning. Ever have a day when you're pretty sure you've lost all control of how it will unfold. I've noticed that Lit can take a similar path, just when you think you've got a handle on the place, you realize you realize you really don't. The question becomes do you expect to have more control of RL or of online?

I have much more control of my online life than of RL, because I am able to close the connection with the internet at my will, which is not possible with things in RL.

As evening sets in, I've been wondering; we tend to stay at lit, or come looking, for engaging conversation of whatever ilk interests you, naughty or nice. But, if we all do that, some of us have to be that engaging person others are looking for. Now, toss modesty aside, do you consider yourself engaging or a someone searching for that spark.

I think that I'm the engaging type, I tend to lead conversations rather than follow.

If something interests me I'll engage, if by leading or following is unimportant to me. Or did you mean lurking by following? I don't call lurking engaging.

Happy Tuesday everyone.

The first move. It's quite possibly as nerve racking here as it is in real life. Knowing when is the right time, wanting to make sure it's well received, doesn't feel clumsy, isn't too early, isn't too late, is at the proper level. Looking for that first subtle clue, that the other person seems accepting. Or was that actually your partner's "first move". Hoping that your new friend is flattered/pleased and not out off.

It never gets any easier, does it?

No, it doesn't. In RL. Online I do think it is easier.

Some days a diamond, some days a stone.

What cliche best sums up your day?

The last two days were: Life isn't a pick nick, but today it seems to be.

There are some threads I look at and immediately I know I have no idea what's going on. Sometimes scrolling back helps, sometimes it really doesn't. If it's a thread I frequent sometimes I'll try and sort out what is going on, sometimes I just leave and come back later, and sometimes I will PM someone to ask what's going on. And to be honest, sometimes I just reevaluate the whole thread and decide I'm no longer interested. What approached do you take?

I often take a peek a few pages back and see if I can catch up. If not, I usually just make my way elsewhere. I come here for short periods of time off and on during the day, so I try not to get tangled up in complicated or in depth threads. I enjoy popping in here to read, but rarely have the time to answer anything to my own satisfaction. Today is a pleasant exception, so I decided to add my thoughts. ;)

My first move is usually to rewind to the very start of the thread to see what the OP had to say by way of context. Unfortunately, there are quite a few examples where the topic has drifted considerably since then and the thread has degenerated into knowing banter between its inmates (or, from my perspective, noise*). In those cases, I just move on rather than interrupt the party.

(* I'm not really complaining. Every forum that I have visited has some long and winding threads. It seems to be a Law of the Internet. Presumably, given sufficient time, even the Litiquette thread will transform into a discussion about bananas. I like bananas. Bananas are good. :D)

I have a small number of threads I regularly read. Sometimes I'll click on one that is new and, if it's a jumble, I give up pretty quickly.

Most of my reading is in the How To section. Mainly because people ask some really weird shit and it intrigues me. With some of those threads, the really long ones, I've started from the beginning because they are so damned interesting. One of them, some 50 pages long, I went back and read again, like a year later because it was so good.

I don't read incredibly well or thoroughly. So, if the thread is cumbersome, I skip it. I rarely come to the Playground, for that reason. I actually quite enjoy this thread because the responses are composed of well-written and well-thought ideas and opinions. I don't even know most of the people who participate in this thread, but I enjoy reading it.

If I can't figure out what's going on in a span of about 45 seconds, I skip the thread entirely. If it's really confusing, I just assume the posters are all buddies and in on a joke I'm not, so I don't bother with it.

I just look to see where VV's been posting and go there ;)

That's how I feel about a lot of The Playground. I'm not complaining, just saying that's how it is. I realize that's the purpose of the threads there. For the most part, the threads are skewed towards flirty interaction. But every once in a while I'll see an interesting looking thread and when I go to read it, people will be going on about cake or some shit and I just scratch my head and move on.

Talking specifically about the Playground. Pmann's observation is pretty accurate. The Playground seems to be all about either chasing down a plaything for the night, or trying to get noticed so your inbox starts getting double-teamed for the ego pick-me-up. It's a rare thread that has a consistent depth to it. Most fade away to be replaced by lighthearted flirt-fests. If you look through my somewhat cynical spectrum, just replace every other word with "want to skype?" and the thread will make perfect sense.

Yes...Isn't the clue in the name?

It's a playground...It's for playing and having fun

I have enough depth in RL, don't you?
