Just a wink?

Ok, I call out to the gods and goddesses of lit to bring me their wisdom. I really need help on siginal interpretations frolm women. I don't know if they are just being nice and friendly or if they are hoping for me to be more than friendly back or what?

My biggest problem is waitresses. I could swear that a few of them have been interested in me, but I also know that their tips are thought to be based on how happy they make the customer. Today's case...I went to eat lunch and had a friendly good looking waitress. We had a small bit of casual talk, nothing too much, but I thought she smiled at me more than the older folks next to me. At the conclusion of the meal (after I had left the tip which she hadn't seen) I stood up and offered my hand for a shake and told her I really enjoyed her service. She smiled at me and gave a quick wink. After that I just walked off and left since she had 2 other tables to take care of.

So, does this sound like just someone being friendly? Should I have done something more? It's a little awkward to get a siginal just as you are leaving...what would you folks have done?

Sometimes it is really hard to tell what the opposite sex would like to see happen by how they respond. A wink? I would think she might be glad to see you again.

Her moving along so quickly, well maybe today wouldn't have been the day to ask her out.

It sounds like you handled it well.

If I were you, I would make that my favorite lunch spot for a while and see what happens.

:)

I'm with misstaken

Hang out for awhile and see what happens.

Here's the thing, a lot of times, people are genuinely flirting, but they don't want it to lead to anything.

Other times...they do. ;)

As far as service industry is concerned...I really perfected flirting when I was a bartender; it was fun and didn't hurt my tips.

Those are the reasons I concur with MissTaken.

Thank you for your time.

Alex.:D

Well she did mention that she usually works nights when it's busy and filled with cranky customers, so today was a nice change of pace. I would love to eat there more often, but alas I'm a poor college boy. I get 100 bucks a month for food and fun and eating there with tip is about $10 so I can't really go too often...

Just another remark, almost everyone everwhere I go thinks I'm really young...I got carded for buying a rated R movie and I'm almost 22! But the waitress asked me if I'd like to start off with some alcohol without even asking my age. I thought that was nice :D

i have to say that as a waitress i have flirted with many customers that i really would never have gone out with. however, i never winked at them ;)

Who knows?

I would've left my name and phone number with the tip. But, that could be a little courageous if you ever plan on going there again!

(It would be for me, anyways)

Being poor could work well in a couple ways...the first is that you could simply go in for coffee...just coffee. It will be an indication to her that you may dig her and it will give you some more time with her to see if she likes you...

The second benefit is that if she doesn't like you...you simply stop going and save your money without having to spend much in the first place.

I think it's obvious I'm in debt at the moment.

I'd really like to leave my name and number, but I don't generally carry pens on me, and my phone number is long distance (cell phone from Austin area), so it would be a little odd to have a stranger go that far out of the way to call me...hmmm

Maybe I'll go again next week and see if I happen to find her around.

Thanks for the suggestion Alexandraaah, but unfortunately I don't drink coffee, and I'm not waisting money on just hot chocolate ;)

SWEET SIR GALAHAD
(Words and Music by Joan Baez)

Sweet Sir Galahad
came in through the window
in the night when
the moon was in the yard.
He took her hand in his
and shook the long hair
from his neck and he told her
she'd been working much too hard.
It was true that ever since the day
her crazy man had passed away
to the land of poet's pride,
she laughed and talked alot
with new people on the block
but always at evening time she cried.

And here's to the dawn of their days.

She moved her head
a little down on the bed
until it rested softly on his knee.
And there she dropped her smile
and there she sighed awhile,
and told him all the sadness
of those years that numbered three.
Well you know I think my fate's belated
because of all the hours I waited
for the day when I'd no longer cry.
I get myself to work by eight
but oh, was I born too late,
and do you think I'll fail
at every single thing I try?

And here's to the dawn of their days.

He just put his arm around her
and that's the way I found her
eight months later to the day.
The lines of a smile erased
the tear tracks upon her face,
a smile could linger, even stay.
Sweet Sir Galahad went down
with his gay bride of flowers,
the prince of the hours
of her lifetime.

And here's to the dawn
of their days,
of their days.

I read an interesting post on another board about how it never fails for threads get completely off topic at some point...guess we reached that point lol
