...as too much Nyquil? (or Nyquil substitute?)...I think I've had my share for the year in the last few days. I went through a whole bottle in one day...I know, that's bad...and you aren't supposed to have that much, but I needed the oblivion that only Nyquil can give.

Back to work tomorrow...and out of my Nyquil induced stupor. *waaaaaa*

The Nyquil won't kill you, but it won't make you well either.

What have you got, flu?

Sore throat?

Bad cold?

Vikings?

I think there's such a thing as too much anything. Yes, anything. ;)

If you have not gotten rid of your cold in a weeks time you should see a doctor or try some different medicne the one your taken ..Is not working for you ..Try something else

the wife

Instead of Nyquil, do what my mom used to do with us kids. Take a shot of brandy or something. About the same alcohol content as Nyquil (which is 25 I htink)

I don't use Nyquil because it is "habit forming" and causes a "backlash" that is almost as whatever I was taking it for.

In it's place, I use specific products to tailor self-medication to the symptoms. I take degongestants when I'm congested, and pain-killers when I'm in pain, and both when the congestion is causing pain.

In place of Nyquil, I would suggest Tavist 1 (tm) (antihistamine) or Tavist D (tm) (antihistamine plus degongestion) with extra strength Excedrin (tm) if there is pain or inflamation. The active ingredient in Tavist products is a very potent antihistamine that will make you as groggy as Nyquil so you can sleep. If swift thought is required, I would suggest a milder product like Actifed (tm) that doesn't cause as severe drowsiness.

Almost everyone reacts differently to various products. The ones I named are the ones that work for me. Your results may vary. The point is that products like Nyquil are a combination of active ingredients for treating symptoms you may or may not have. I personally believe in only treating the symptomes I actually have, and forgoing the side effects of the extra ingredients I don't need.

(PS Tavist is a "12 Hour" dosage, and in my experience, that means 12 full hours of grogginess. Don't take it unless you are sure you don't have anything to do for 12 hours except sleep. <G>)

I suggest about 5 shots of your favorite liquor, follwed by another, and another, then go to bed, and wake up bright eyed and bushy tailed--

Grrrr...yes, it's been a week...looks like I'm going to have to at least take my daughter in. She was up all night coughing, and I don't mean a little tickle, this is not good. The worst part is, I have to go to work...you know what...no I don't. This is stupid. I shouldn't be worrying about keeping my job because I have to stay home with my daughter when she's ill. Of course, when I call in, I'll be lucky if I can even talk long enough to explain my situation...

WH...I think Nyquil was my first addiction. My b/f in high school took me aside one day and asked me what my problem was. I guess I must have been using it for days and not realizing it...*sigh*...I hadn't used it in a long while. Then I started taking it so I could just sleep when I was sick. Looking at the ingredients on that and the Robitussin I bought yesterday, they are the same (minus the alcohol)...does that mean that stuff doesn't work either? *more sighs*...

I doubt the alcohol will do anything except numb my senses, and with a sick kid, that is the last thing you need. Sucks...really sucks.

We won't even discuss the Vikings...I put that off to my being ill...I mean, if I am ill, how can they possibly be playing at the top of their game? LOL

And sex is out, definitely out...you haven't been paying attention, have you? First off, even if I could get a guy, hell even a woman, to look at me twice, I doubt they'd stick around long after they realize what condition I'm in...anyone wanna watch me rub the Vicks on my chest? I hear that can be a prelude to some wild sex...hahaha

Just trin fer a smile

It really sucks to be sick with a sick kid! I know, been there, have the t shirt. You try to take care of your child and just get sicker yourself, and you know that if you get much sicker, you won't be able to help her. And it scares you to death because if you can't do it who will?

Just thought that you could use a smile. Come over here for a hug, and of course I'll rub the Vicks in for you...got a clotges pin for my nose.

Really, hope you two start feelin better.

It depends on which formulation of Robitussin (tm) you're looking at. The basic version just contains an expectorant, which loosens phlem so it can be expelled. I've found that the formulation that also contains a decongestant (Pseudophedrine, I think) also softens the phlem, but doesn't necessarily make it easier to cough up. The formulation that contains an antihistamine, tries to dry up the secretions, and simultaneously loosen them -- Thereby counteracting itself to some extent.

You need to evaluate the symptoms that are causing you the most distress and select a medication (or combination of medications) which treats just those symptoms. A doctor's advice or prescription is the best way to accomplish that, but learning how your body reacts to certain compounds is the key to successful treatment.

One peculiarity(?) of my metabolism is that I seem to build a "tolerance" to specific medications. If, for example, I have ben using a lot of Actifed(tm) it becomes less effective. Changing to Benadryl(tm) or Tavist D(tm)provides more relief for my sinusitis than continuing to use Actifed, at least for a while.

I don't have a list of the active ingredients of Nyquil handy, but I think it contains an antihistamine, decongestant, expectorant, and painkiller. If it isn't working, try something that uses different components or omits some components that don't address your symptoms.

When your teeth turn green its time to lay off.

Or switch to the cherry version instead of the "Original Green Death Flavor"

NyQuil Big "N" little "y", BIG FUCKING "Q". The thirteenth step in many twelve step programs, a chemical "ball-peen" hammer to the head......

My appologies to Dennis Leary.

Yeah, been using the cherry...heehee...can't stand that green stuff...looks like it should taste like mint, but *shudders*

Doctor said the little one is fine, she just took the regular viral strain to a higher level than they have seen. Supposedly the last 6 days in bed was enough, and I'm to send her to school tomorrow. I spoke to her teacher and she's going to keep an eye on her...hopefully, it's gone. Although, I still don't like the sound of her cough.

On the other hand, I'm still sick. I'm to stay in bed for the rest of the week...So, I'm thinking, how on earth am I supposed to stay home? I can't make any money doing that. I called work, told them my situation, and said I'd be in on Wednesday...they had an "executive" meeting, and decided I'm not to set foot in that office until Monday. *sigh* Gotta love a company that will keep you in their employ, even if you miss 2 weeks of work. However, I still will not get paid. FUCKITY FUCK FUCK FUCK...oh well...it is more important for me to get better.

I'm numb, that's all I know...*hugs*
