I just got my eyes "lasered" this afternoon. LASIK surgery. I was nearsighted as all get out. Now.....20/20 vision! This is amazing what they can do anymore.

The only "odd" thing was the actual laser moment. As I was being "zapped" there was a slight....smell....a burning or singed odor. *cringe That and they have your eye held open.....yikes!

But, no more bumping into doors for me! :D :D :D

Anyone else ever have this done?

My sister has, said it was very freaky.
Edited to say she said it lasted three years for her.

Wow thats great news!!!

I haven't had it done but will eventually have to have some eye surgery to remove Tridigons.

Congratulations. :rose:

I've been afraid because some of the people who had it done and got worse.

Ive been thiking about it. I want it done, but i heard its only temporary. Needing it done every 10 years or so. Is ths true?

I've not heard this, but there is a chance that some "tweaking" might need to be done. That is based on a case by case basis. I will need reading glasses eventually, but that is only because of old age. Unfortunately, they haven't figured out a cure for that yet!! ;)

I've had lasar surgery but not the LASIK. Mine was a JAG (I'm not sure if I got that right.) Essentially, mine was to burn off the cloudiness after cataract surgery. It was kinda funky.

I am so jealous. :)

Enjoy life without lenses.

My mom had it and loves the results.

I'm pretty sure my pupils are too large. :(

They easily dilate to around 6mm in the dark--which means I could end up seeing halos or worse at night. I'd like to continue to drive at night.

I've also heard that it's temporary. The trouble is that LASIK surgery has only existed for ten years or so. There just isn't a lot of long-term data.

don't be afraid.....it's not like the old days of RK surgery. Just do your homework. Investigate your surgeon carefully and find out his or her capabilites. It is so worth it! :D

WOW!

It works that fast?

Good for you! Now we need to rustle up some naked men for you to zone in on.

I had "night blindness" for ages. Go to a LASIK center and talk with the doctor. Most will do an evaluation for free. It's not cover by insurance in most cases, but it is well worth it! They mention the "halos" and with others I've talked to it last for approximately a week to 10 days.

And I've talked to MANY people. I asked my doctor for a list of patients who have had the surgery for 3 or more years, that I could talk to about the surgery. I called 50+ people (and went to have coffee with LOTS of people!) and all but 2 would recomend it. They 2 that wouldn't were told by the doctor that it might not work as well for them and they didn't blame the procedure, they were willing to take the risk. Their eyesight isn't any worse....just not better.

Already found some!! :D

Works fast? They had me looking at the laser light during and it was out of focus when they started "zapping". By the time they irrigated my eye when they finished(3 minutes later), the light was in focus!! AMAZING!

Right... but remember: Your eye is always growing and changing. If you need glasses to see far now, you get lasik and you'll need reading glasses later.

Congrats! I had it done just over a month ago and it's been the smartest thing I've ever done. In my case I found the whole procedure rather boring. I was really excited to watch what they were doing, but of course I couldn't see to do it. I found it funny that the laser reminded me of a strobe light. I loved the part where the pulled off the cornea!:) Hope you have the same luck with it I did.
