Now for one thing they usually have breast implants rather than naturally occurring breasts, and some of them have remarkably large penises. These two features taken together suggest to me that, anatomically at least, this person was born male. But then it gets even more confusing if the person has a decidedly pretty, girl's face, and I don't mean from plastic surgery, although that is sometimes the case.
In essence, I'm trying to figure out the genetics of such persons, and how those genetics can give both a pretty girl's face and large penis. Also, why do so many of them seem to have such large penises.

For a start you have been looking at too much porn. It is giving you some unrealistic ideas about transgender people. Of course the actors that you see in porn have large cocks - that’s why they are working in porn!

In the real world, some transgender women have small penises, most are average and some are large.

Biologic sex is a spectrum, like "shorter" to "taller", actually it's multiple spectra. As for "gender" there are as many of those as their are people. Porn tends to fetishize what male-identifying people tend to like to stare at.

My ex is going through this now.

Estrogen, progesterone and a testosterone blocker help breast tissue grow. This also softens facial features, softens facial hair and changes the fat distribution in the hip and ass.

The T-blocker has shrunken the penis, and it is non-functional. No arousal or orgasm since 4 months after starting.

My ex has gotten to a B cup in 18 months.
If they don't grow to a full C, surgery will follow.

Trans who want to keep their penis full size probably go straight to implants.

It's called genetics.

Everyone is different due to genetics.

Just as it differentiates the general population it also differentiates the trans population, too.

I'm thinking the OP is living in a bubble. I am no expert. All I know is when I lived in Chicago a MtF friend needed to use the restroom, I had no problem with her sharing the women's restroom. She was constantly denigrated by males. The women stood up for her because she was worth it.

My ex is referring to themselves as Non-binary. Mother, sister and niece are all very busty, but breast growth is paused after 16 months.
Zero sex drive.
I have noticed more of a "world peace" attitude. They are much more relaxed when it comes to business documents.
Some things that would have made marriage nicer. But in this case, the cost of going back is to lose who I have become.
I am glad they found who they are. I supported the journey of exploration. Not always perfectly, but I did support.

And now I will follow my own journey, until the end.

Well, that would be the logical thoughts, and is, I'm sure, responsible for a lot of the anatomical difference between one person and the next, but as regards penis size, I've heard some people say that it is partly to do with hormone levels during puberty. I've not had the chance to ask an MD about that, so I don't know if it's true or not.

Penis size is largely determined by your genetics. Same is true for clitoris size, since they are literally the same organ but with or without certain hormones introduced during prenatal development.

Size is also determined by the X chromosome, which is inherited from the mother for those with XY (for example, a cisgender man, AKA a man who was assigned male at birth, or a transgender woman). You always inherit it from the X chromosome... meaning, from your biological mother.

Any other influences might be from pubertal nutrition and hormonal development, but those are very secondary to genetics. You can't change much during development. Another thing that changes apparent penis size is fat above and around the pubic region. Makes it look (and feel) smaller if ya got a FUPA.

I don't know what this has to do with transgender women. Trans women can have a similar hormonal panel to cisgender men prior to medical transition. As in, their hormones aren't distinctly different from what is considered "normal." It's more common, actually. Some trans women might have some hormonal differences... but the same is true for men.

Just remember that humans produce all sex hormones, regardless of sex. The testes produce estrogen. Ovaries produce testosterone. It's just a matter of how much.
