Hello From My Englishness

I love it when talk turns to food although I consider avacados to be exceptionally overrated. ( with or without the chilli flakes). I’m working from home today so the challenge will be to stay away from the kitchen anyway.

I have seen avocados described as 'pale, green, snot-like orbs of blandness'.
Does that sum it up for you too?

I wouldn't go so far as the second description, but good to know that I am not the only one who finds them overrated.

I would have thought there may be other challenges.
*Lit traffic sores as opportunities for those working from home to post nsfw expand exponentially*

Or the opposite, as Litsters are working from home in the company of their other half and/or children.

Morning all. How's everyone doing?

Five clear days since I came across the Channel. Still no symptoms, phew. Either I'm clear or I'm an asymptomatic spreader. One week indoors to go.

It's going to make it way more difficult for everyone if they do shut the schools. I feel for the teachers and support staff, though. All that exposure.

Phenomenal pressure for them. It's actually times like this that I'm glad im retired: protected income, time on my hands but I admit I'm going to miss the grandchildren who dont really understand.

Brace yourself Harry! You've got 2 days peace left, run for the hills ........

I’m a key worker so my kiddo will be going in. I feel a bit bad for her since most of her friends won’t be there but options are limited. This is when I really wish I had family around me for lots of reason.

I get you, I'm a northerner living south, never had family close by so external support was 0. Hope you get through it with minimum problems and thanks for being so dedicated to whatever you do :rose:

Will the teachers who will be required to look after the children of key workers now be considered as key workers themselves? And if so does that mean their children will be able to go to school with them? Asking for a friend...

You would think so, as without that status that argument falls apart.

Just read possible hysteria on Twitter ... someone has seen military in London and leaping to conclusions.

That would be my take on it. Daughter is a teaching assistant and is responsible for 1to1 support for two children with learning and behavioural problems in a mainstream school. She will find out more today, but expects to still be needed next week, and that her own daughter will either have to go with her or still attend her own school. There is no other choice.

This key worker issue needs to be pushed front and centre. NHS staff not being tested. Teaching staff not being tested.

At least Johnson’s Dad knows when to take heed of government advice.

Just reread your tweet. The school should (magic word!) honour that arrangement, at least common sense would dictate that. Staff taking all reasonable precautions?

Daughter just phoned, she is working. Her school are having vulnerable children only. That is those with a social worker, and/or an educational statement. This now puts her as a ‘key worker’ so her daughter will also keep a school place, but she hasn’t been told which school building that will be in.

As it was on Twitter there's a chance they stumbled upon the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace. I was told by someone yesterday that they had it on good authority that the Duke of Edinburgh had died three days ago but it was being kept a secret.

Amongst the general gloom there is some good news though - and as far as I know 100% true - in that Trump has been stopped from building sea defences around one of his golf resorts on ecological grounds...

It’s a very persistent rumour about D o E..... although it doesn’t help when the photo published of him allegedly travelling to Windsor is actually a few months old. I’d like to know who the “ good authority “ is though... it’s quite vague. Some people might consider me to be a good authority.

Could this be another Dallas with HMQ dreaming about the demise of the old bugger.
I've recounted it to many Litsers but my mum dreamt about my dad dying, it was only when we took his artificial leg to the hospital and asked what we should do with it and the sister suggested we ask him that we realised he was still alive. He died three weeks later.

How is everyone?

Grabbed a couple of bit from Iceland this morning, chatted with some people in there, queued and paid for the 5 or 6 items I had and wandered out into a crowd.

I though....WTF.... and a lad on the door was stopping people and said 'Sorry, this is the Over 60's Shopping Hour'

One the one hand, I was delighted with Iceland's approach...one the other, I clearly do not look as youthful as I thought as I wasn't challenged when going into the store so... to answer Mr Devereaux's question: I'm conflicted

:D That made me grin. When my man and I were in India, we were constantly asked if we wanted the over 60 concession price for stuff. I'm only 54  But we both have greying hair. Now everyone in India dyes their hair, everyone. So everyone has jet black hair, even when they're 90, and so they have no idea how to age you when you don't. :D That's what I told myself, anyway... ;)

How is everyone?

Hey Mr D!

Very well, thanks, and you?

We're still self isolating after Italy, six days to go. Just to be a bit different, though, my man has developed shingles in his thigh. Quite painful. Looks like I'm going to be on top for the foreseeable... :D

Did anyone else grin yesterday at Daniel Radcliffe on Desert Island Disks? He picked "We'll all go together when we go". Must have been recorded way before all this kicked off, but still, spooky...

Ouch, shingles isn’t nice. I had the vaccination along with the flu jab in October. Doesn’t stop you getting it, but it isn’t as severe.

You do know it is highly infectious especially if the blisters weep.

Take care

Thanks, Todge  He's pretty uncomfortable. :(

It is highly contagious, you're right, but you can only catch chicken pox from someone with shingles, you can't catch shingles itself. And you can only get chicken pox once. I've had it, so I'm not at risk, fortunately.

Weird, isn't it? You get chicken pox, then it lies dormant within you until decades later, when it may or may not decide to resurface.

How is everything with you and yours?

Was going to PM an answer, but forgot you have them off. Generally doing ok. Food wise we are managing and have Morrisons delivery booked for the coming two weeks. It appears they are not allowing any more time slots. I’ve logged in at varying times, including just before and just after midnight when they added a new day, but states fully booked.

We will get by if the morons stop buying bulk they don’t need. The most ridiculous one I heard from a Tesco checkout person was a woman trying to buy 14 large bottles of Comfort fabric conditioner. Security had to be called when she refused to move until they sold it to her. She never got it or the rest of her shop as they ejected her.
