My precipitation enforced enclosure left me with time to think about, you know, stuff.

The whole Nosferatu reboot is nerve wracking. The are going to ruin it. Ruin it!

Some things are just too iconic to be rebooted. Nicholas Cage had the right idea with Shadow of the Vampire (2000). A retell, from a completely unique angle. That's the way to do these things.

One thing this director does better than anybody is giving his movies a look. This even has the orange tint of a silent film and I like it.
Where he sometimes fails is in the writing, but this is also the first thing he hasn’t exactly written. It already has a beginning, middle and end built in, so we may be in good shape.

There have been two, count 'em, two Nosferatu remakes. Nosferatu the Vampyr (1979) and a Kickstarter effort that, oddly, had a limited release in 2023.

That last is pretty amazing as the Kickstarter was 2014. Kickstarters that take that long rarely deliver. Kudos to them.

Huh. Wiki says the film was seized for obscenity in the UK. Though further reading indicates that might be gore related rather than sex?

My view must have been the edited version.

Gore and sex might have been an improvement.

At least I would have been distracted enough to cover my eyes.

Speaking of remakes.

Or at least resurrection of literary characters from the past. Odd how productions travel linear, in prompt succession, like some type of perpetual film ouroboros.

Currently there seems to be a little run on hardboiled American detectives. First Liam Neeson in Marlow (2022). Now Clive Owen in Monsieur Spade (2023).

I haven't seen the first, but the second is quite interesting. And surprising. I would never have pictured Owen as the rough and ready cynical Spade. He even manages an offbeat (for him) drawly accent that really recalls 1930 film detectives.

I’ve never heard of this one, but it is from the director of “Queen Kong”, so it must be crap.
Also, based on the description, to have no nudity or sex in the story is actually pretty offensive.
I’ll skip this one.

Have you ever seen Night of the Bloody Apes (1969)? I just watched it the other day (on Tubi) and it was enjoyably terrible.

ETA: I should include a warning that it shows a human heart operation (real stock footage) so be warned if that bothers you.

When I first saw the preview I raised an eyebrow. Really, American icon Spade transplanted to France? Eh. Hard to see how that was going to work.

Learned a bit about about history, too. I had no idea France had colonized Algeria, or fought a bloody war to retain ownership.

-Ditto the natives (the queen wears high heels ).
-The ships name is Liberated Lady.
-The director wanders through the market with her hair tucked in the sides of her visor, which - has to be the weirdest hair fashion statement ever.
-Filmed in the mid-70s, but views like a 60’s screwball British comedy?
-The leading male is . . . oddly unattractive for the role. *confused icon*
-Super odd impromptu musical number.
-The dialogue. *shudders*

That’s ~25 minutes in.
Ray Fay was just abducted.
By natives dressed like they're at a Hawaiian Luau.

As a King Kong parody and spoof of gender roles, I totally get it.

Going through old PMs is like a digging up a time capsule.

Mine has not been a generation to write letters, but I think the PMs chronicling these long-distant friendships must have a similar feel.

Remembering alone is not quite the same. Feelings, thoughts, and perception are narrowed over time. The written missives open the past and everything blossoms anew, sometimes with new insight.
