Earth Day Contest Support Thread

My story "Pussy Willow" has a current vote of 4.54 with 50 votes submitted and 8978 views. I've received 5 public comments and about that many emails.

That seems like a high number of views to me in relation to the votes.

But since I haven't posted a story in a long time, I have no idea how these numbers compare.

*HUGS*
K

That is a brilliant rating with that number of votes. The rating tends to drop with number of votes. Over 4.50 rates an H for HOT.

Og

Ohhh! Is THAT what the H is for! I figured it stood for Hot, but I didn't know what made a story hot, whether it was number of views or rating or what.

I have a few stories with H's on them and I wasn't sure.

What about the other letters? What do those stand for?

Earth Day Stories~

.........Hawk and a Dove..........
I'm guessing because its a two page story...
Took a month to write and is my pride.
I can't get many votes on this one...but my
comments are wonderful?

But this silly thing was an Earth Day fun write...
with a lot of research but little time put into
writing it. Just plain fun one night...And its soaring????
(Of course they seem to when they first come out)
......Assignment: Earth Day 2004.....

Feedback, votes and critisism appreciated.

What about the other letters? What do those stand for?
E = Editor's Choice, Laurel liked the story

W = Winner, the story has won some award or contest

Rumple (What ain't got none of those letters by his stories) Foreskin

Hi.

Hi Oogbashan.

I read your story and voted best it was nice. I posted one my Husband wrote with a typewriter from several years ago, called "They say you can't go home again".
I saw some parts that I would have changed but then it would have been me, not him, so I just posted it the way he wrote it.
I didn't even fix the one typo I saw, silly huh? But Ted wrote that, I didn't.

I am sorry I haven't been posting much, I have been busy setting up the new medical clinic. Lots to do here, I am still with Jon and the new life is OK.

Hi to everyone.

Hi to everyone.

Good to see you, Lee. Glad you're posting again! I'm doing my best to plug through all of the entries and get my votes in. I saw your story and was surprised, since I hadn't seen or heard much from you since the move. Hope everything is good and that you are happy.

Sincerely,
lucky

Hi.

Yes, I have been so busy. Jon set up a clinic at the resort, but even with 1600 rooms I was only seeing 2-5 people a week. So I got the idea to take over their medical plan, now I have all the staff, too and their families.
I am running a G/P clinic, if I see something serious I just refer like I did before. So far just colds and flu and cuts and bruises, but now I see 30 a week. Work has to feel like work, I am happy so far.
This let Jon put a large deductible on the employee plan, it seems to work, and the savings is more than 3 times what I get paid.
I told Jon I should get a raise, LoL. I was afraid it would be a union thing but they are all non-union, plus they all seem delighted to have me right there at work.
Jon spends every night at my house now, I think he is getting used to it. We go out with canoes on weekends in the Truckee river, that is fun.

Thanks for the comment.

I am pleased that you are OK and busy in your new life.

No sleeping bag sex or fucking around the old campfire for me, I'm afraid. I decided to take a big leap and let out a bunch of ideas about sex and the earth and how they're related in kind of prose poem called "The Pillar in the Garden". The only category it would fit in is "Essays and Reviews".

It won't do well, but for once I really don't much care. This is easily the most personal thing I've ever posted to Lit, and the most radical, but as I say in the piece, it's all true, and when you write the truth, what do you care about opinions? Well, I guess I do care about opinions, actually. I'd love to get some feedback on it.

Voted on your story dr_m. What can I say? I'm hardly qualified to critique YOUR work, but as for an opinion? Awesome!

My last earthday score is

2.50 but only 6 votes so far, with 900 + reads. LOL one of the comments even references me popping off to the earthday contest thread. LOL gotta love it. However I had a real problem with fetish. It took me three tries to get a story posted there. I knew it was going to get hammered because I really don't understand the fetish lifestyle. Not my kink. So I took pains to write something that was only fetish and the characters climax only because of the fetish. I've tried to post erotic horror before as well and I obvioisly don't get that category either. So I may try Earthday Erotic horror. LOL as long as the story is going to be bad anyway might as well get some fun out of it.

Another question for you seasoned Litizens....

My story had 50 votes when I made my earlier post, but late last night it was down to 43 votes. Now it's back up to 48 votes. What the heck is up with that?

I know you can't vote more than once on a story but I thought that happened automatically when you tried to vote again? I didn't think someone had to go and take those votes off later. (Which is my guess on why the votes went from 50 to 43 if people tried to vote more than once.) Am I wrong on this?

Funny that you posted this now. I'm actually reading your story right now. :D Scarves? I love it.

Okay, the vote thing. My guess is that the votes that you 'lost' were troll votes. Laurel (staff?) goes through periodically and removes the dumpy votes, as I understand it. I could be wrong about this, but I think they watch for fairness and remove 1's that may have been placed by devious voters for whatever reason. I'm not the authority, by any means, but this would be my guess.

I figured it was something like that lucky!

And thanks for reading my story! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the feedback.

My own favourite part is when she is climaxing and she turns a 4 letter word into 20. (Yes, it's actually 20 letters. At least it should be.)

I haven't read your story yet, but I will get to it. :) Must read all the competition, after all! :)

Asked Laurel about that very question. She replied that they have a computer program that does clean up. They run it periodically to remove cumulative votes from stories. When you lost votes if your score went up they removed extra votes that were voted low for some reason. If tour votes went down and your score went down, they removed extra votes from readers trying to help you. They did this to the entire site not just the earthday contest. The results for me were surprising. Several of my stories gained a point or two and several lost a point or two.

Hope this helps-- Jo

I counted while reading. They is 20. :D
(Should I tell you the first time I counted I missed an f and then got 19 and had to do it again...)

:p

Lovely story SpecialK. Enjoyed it. :)

Thanks for the info. My story has remained quite consistant in this despite the changing vote numbers.

While I tried to get 20 letters when writing it, I could've miss counted too. lol!

But thanks for the praise. It means a lot coming from you, damppanties. I read your story. Wow!! Very well written!

The competition is pretty dang scalding around here! :D

rolls her eyes thinking men

Last time I tell ya anything there Joseki...lol

Go ahead and steal my answer after my lovely worded question to Laurel. LOL... just kidding

Congrats to those in the lead... if I am not mistaken pixiejuices story is the leader at this time.

Ah well, won't be for long, with the votes i've been getting since laurel ran that program i'll be lucky to finish above a 4. :D

:rose:

Am I the only person that didn't get cleaned out? My numbers have remained unchanged. And I'm positive there's at least some garbage going on.

I have a merry band of trolls...okay, so far it's only two...that follow any new stories and immediately shit on them. They've visited this one and I've not seen any changes since the day it first went up. Which is fine, because the feedback and voting has otherwise been really great. But I was curious if anyone else's numbers had stayed the same.
