My 2 cents Blue... I decided 2 years ago (this week to be exact) that it was time to lose weight...AGAIN!! yup, I have done the yo yo thing for 20 plus years now, so I know how that is. So I decided that I was going to do it the right way for once, and I did not start out like a house of fire either. I decided to "wean" myself from most of my bad eating habits, but would not totally change my lifestyle ( I did that in 1989 and lost 100 lbs, then when I had to change my lifestyle again after changing jobs, I could NOT keep the weight from coming back!) So I decided not to tell anyone I was doing it. I started walking again, and just kinda, slowly started watching what I ate and now I have so gradually changed the way I do things that I don't notice the things that I don't eat anymore (actually, if I crave something I eat it, just not as much!) and slowly increased the amount of time per week that I was walking. I started out walking no more than 3 days a week and never walking more than 3 miles per day, then slowly started increasing the amount of time I walk, I am currently walking at least 5 days a week and doing anywhere between 3 and 4 1/2 miles per walk (for the last 4 weeks I have averaged at least 15 miles per week and have walked as many as 22 miles in one week) Anyway, to make a long story even longer, I didn't notice too much change in my body until last spring, when I realized that I could wear shirts that I hadn't been able to wear just a couple of months earlier, and then last summer other people started noticing too!! and boy did that make me want to lose more weight!! Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is that (for me anyway) the best way to lose weight is to decide that you really want to do it, and DO NOT try the fad diets!! (suppliments are all right I quess if thats what you want to do, I didnt) then stick with it, its as much a mental thing as it is a physical thing YOU HAVE TO WANT TO LOSE WEIGHTand be willing to sacrifice to do it!
Anyway, just in case you are wondering, I started out at 320 lbs, and this morning weighed in at 255, yep! thats 65 lbs! I have gone from a xxxl shirt to in between xl and xxl and have lost abdout 4 inches from my waist, I have more stamina than I have ever had in my life and DAMN even my sex drive has increased greatly!! I have done it all on my own with no fads and nop suplements and I don't really feel like I have sacrificed anything from my life style to lose it!! I still have at least 35 more lbs to lose and I will lose it, hopefully in the next year, but if I don't lose it my this time next year, I do know that I WILL LOSE IT! I might even lose more, we'll see! And if you haven't it out by now... I am damned proud of myself!! So, ok, off my soap box!! I'll gladdly talk to anyone who wants to talk about losing weight and going into more detail if you want (even though there is not much more detail than I have all ready explained!)

You are too cute.....

I was reading your post to Blue...and i must say.....you look great...and good for you that you have made such a change in your life. I know that im starting once again to take a more active role in looking after myself...I do love to walk.. but winter makes it a tad difficult...so a friend and i goto aquasice 3 nights a week...and its great... gives that boost of energy needed. As far as eating better... i do try... but i find cooking for one i tend to not always eat as balanced a diet as i should. If i plan ahead for meals its works out well..and making sure that i make a lunch to bring to work. Its hard to displine ones self... but it does take time... and helps if you can have someone to work through it with you.

actually, I like to exercise on my own! BUT having the beach does help alot. And as far as a balanced diet, here's my usual week day menu. I eat 2 bowls of cereal for breakfast (1% milk) have whatever we are serving for lunch (or if I dont want that I cook something else) then for dinner I have a sandwich, usually ham or turkey w/zesty honey mustard and cheese on a nutty whole wheat bread. During the day if I feel the need I will eat something sweet (borderline hypoglycemic {sp?})normally a cookie. So basically I switch my schedule with what would be considered "normal" sandwich for lunch and cooked meal for dinner. After work I have part of a Mountain Dew on my way to my walk and then I finish it afterwards. If I get a sweet tooth during the evening I keep miniature candy bars (dark chocolate preferably, they are an anti-oxidant) and have a couple of those, and during the warm months, I keep frozen fruit bars for a snack. Thats pretty much for my weekdays. and on the weekends, I eat whatever I want but just try not to go over board!

Believe me...there have been times when I wish they would!

I don't know if it is cartilage or what. It is a torn meniscus, not totally sure what that is. They told me, but I'm dense.

I love bread and cheese... so i know that is my biggest thing to watch out for.... i try to make sure i have those lil baby carroits around so that when i do get the urge to snack i can munch on them...and maybe a little salad dressing for a treat to dip them in...Once summer comes the selection of fruit will be better... i have found over the years though that i have developed numerous fruit allergies...just about landed myself in the hospital after eating half a cherry...

It sounds like miniscus to me and I coinsider myself an expert on that subject!
Just make sure that when you go in to PT that you work your ass off doing it (don't rush it though! bad personal story there) and then continue to work at it when you are released from your Dr's care. Ask your Dr, or your PT person for an execise program that will be good for your knees and help you lose weight as well, I'm sure they will be happy to help!

Oh, there is no question that it is a meniscus tear...they did an MRI for the diagnosis. What I meant was, I couldn't explain it if anyone asked. lol

I've already been to PT and been given strengthening exercises *mumbling about not doing exercises*
