I have a computer question.

I would like to clean out certain pictures and images completely from my hard drive ... how would I go about doing something like that ?

I have deleted certain images & then if I am doing search for something , they will pop up .. I want them completely gone from my hard drive / computer.

Thanks in advance.. :)

depends...

how you go about deleting them will depend on a few things....

First, are they pop up adds or just picture files you saved at one time or another? Whenyou say that you have deleted them before and they keep reappearing...what do you mean? Did you put them in the trash can, uninstall a program? How did you delete them, and what happend when they re appeared?

When you say 'deleting hardrive' I think of deleting everything on you hard drive, loosing everything and starting over again installing your programs. While this certainly is an option, I realy don't hink that it is nessicary.

There should be a much easier way to get rid of them.

I am not a expert but I will try my best to help you. :D

Need more info

before we can help. Are these jpegs you've downloaded? Are you on the net when this happens. It could be several different things going on. You could have spyware on your PC and don't know it. Spyware tracks what websites you go to and how often, I run a program that finds Spyware and deletes it. As far as deleting your harddrive that would be a last resort and something done by someone that knows exactly what they're doing. If you're not really computer savvy I wouldn't advise doing it. I probablly have confused you even more. Hope not..

Thank you all for the advice ... and all I would like to do is delete certain jpgs from my hard drive. I don't want them reappearing when I assumed I deleted them.

I will usually delete a jpg. and do the cycle .. click delete & then go & delete it in the recycling bin -- when all of a sudden I will be doing a search for another jpg. and that aforementioned deleted image appears...

As for spyware , how would I know if its on my computer ?!

Sounds strange

Sounds like your doing the right thing. Try doing a Find Files..just type in jpg and it should find all the jpegs on your drive. As for as spyware goes the program that ArtifexLignorum recommends is what I use. It works and it's free. Best of luck..:)

Where exactly is it appearing -- i.e. what folder is it popping up in.

The Find files and folders function will find files in your temporary internet files, and you don't have any real control of what images are saved there. Every image you view on the net has at least one copy saved in the Temporary internet files, and usually two or three copies in different folders.

Wow guys , lots of good advice! Now I need some help. I have a feeling the answer is self evident ... but need to make sure. Can all the gifs , pics , jpgs etc, take up most of my drive C? I only seem to have maybe a third left on the entire thing . I delete , clean , etc , each week, but it seems to stay the same ... I still have many pics and such stored.TIA:rose:

The simple answer is yes they can.

A better answer is they're probably NOT the biggest problem. Sound and Movie files are usually much bigger and can fill a hard drive faster than collecting JPGs and GIFS

Programs are the second biggest offender in hogging hard drive space. If you've got a lot of programs that you never use, then removing the ones you don't foresee a need for or can't remember what they do will recover a lot of drive space.

Depending on the size of your hard drive, Windows alone can account for as much as a third of the drive space used if you have all of the "bells and whistles" installed.

Another potential space hog is your fonts folder. If you collect every font that attracts your eye, you've given a lot of drive space to things seldom if ever used.

omg Thank you ! I need to spend some time going through everything and delete things. Will simply deleting them to the recycle bin and emptying it get rid of them as in the above post? I was wondering that too. I was told that anyhing and everything you ever look at or use and delete is still and will always be inside the PC, is this true?

Simply deleting a file and purging the recycle bin doesn't remove the data from the disk, it simply releases the space to be reused. Until that space gets reused, the files can be reconstructed.

For practical purposes, the files are gone and you have the disk space back. It takes special software to recover deleted files -- it's not difficult to obtain such software or use it, but it does require a specific effort to find deleted data. Deleted Data doesn't usually just pop up unexpectedly.

If you're concerned about the actual data instead of the disk space, then get Norton SystemWorks or a similar utility that includes a "Disk Wiping" program and/or a "Secure Delete" utility to erase the data as well as release the space.

Eraser

Eraser is easy to use and will get rid of stuff permanently. Its the best way to make sure all personal info etc. is gone before selling a computer/hard drive.

If you are really paranoid on the spyware issue, also check out SpyBot-Search & Destroy. Both it and Adaware generally work well together to get rid of tracking cookies etc.
