He's taking the month off.
Bush eager to go on vacation, commune with cows
WASHINGTON, July 27 (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush said on Friday he was eager to start vacation on his Texas ranch, where he would spend time communing with cows.
"I hope a week from tomorrow the Congress takes off and gives all of us a break," Bush told student leaders of the Future Farmers of America.
He said he was "heading back to the heartland," his 1,600-acre (640-hectare) ranch near Crawford, Texas, where he was expected to spend the entire month of August.
"I love to go walking out there, seeing the cows. Occasionally they talk to me, being the good listener that I am," Bush said.
Assuming Congress starts its summer break in time, Bush is expected to leave Washington on Saturday, Aug. 4, White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said.
Aides say Bush is expected to stay close to the ranch for the first half of his vacation and then make occasional trips from Crawford for events connected with his heartland theme.
"It's important for all of us in Washington to stay in touch with the values of the heartland, because they are values that really are unique," Bush said. He identified these values as "hard work, family, faith."
