wondering if there are any southeast asians on lit? maybe under cover...

Another Asian

I'm 100% Asian. My mom came from Hong Kong and my dad from Vietnam. I was born and raised in Canada.

There's not many of us around, is there?

Hi Alexis :)

Welcome to Lit and this thread.

Do ex-pat's count? Back in the US now, but worked in Tsimshatsui and lived near Stanley overlooking Tai Tam Bay for quite awhile. I miss the Star Ferry and the MTR! AA

i remember you, AA. we got seasick together riding the star ferry back and forth...on another thread. sure, ex-pats count! they count all the things they miss from home while they're in asia and then they count all the things they miss from asia when they get back home.

so...what do you miss about hongkong, aside from the cheap and efficient transportation?

Hmmmmm so many things--I miss the Jade Market, all the shopping, sunrises watching the fishing boats in the mist on Tai Tam Bay, the great foods, Wanchai for getting my veggies, the Peak for the views, and the huge Golden Buddha on the hill above the Po Lin Monastery. I'll think of more! AA

AA,

Did you eat snake soup?

MM
Yes, I even went to the shop that had the snakes in basketlike cages--floor to ceiling. I also miss taking the Number 6 bus around the mountain too. AA

<shaking head> you're such a transportation man.

well, maybe you'll appreciate the view we had from our 22nd story flat--there were 3 modes of transportation lined up. the kai tak airport runway, the harbor, and that stretch of highway called, um, lemme think, the northeastern corridor (not sure about that name). at night, the water was like black glass, obsidian smooth, with lights atwinkle along the sides of the harbor, and then the slow-crawling lights of the tugboats and bumboats trawling the channel. mesmerizing.

have you been back to hk with the new airport?

No, haven't been to the new airport...watched the whole thing being built along with that monstrous suspension bridge that makes the Golden Gate Bridge look tiny in comparison!

The old airport used to scare me...how you'd drop below the high rise levels when landing and having to make the hard turn when taking off to avoid the mountain....yuck! Not really a transportation man...my office was on Victoria harbour and was dealing with cargo ships all the time. In HK, I felt safe no matter where or what time of the day or night I was walking there. I also miss the night lights plus the contrasts red/golds of the many jewelry shops.

I want to go back just to see how much it has changed since China took over...also want to take the Jet Ferry to Macao.

Welcome to our newest additions :)

I might be going to Hong Kong next week for a bit of R&R and to see my baby niece. So I can remind you lot of what you miss :D

thank you Ask For More, MercyMia and RomanHans for the warm welcomes
*blush*

nobody else is from canada? (eh?)

Bumpity bump!

I just got Jet Li's latest film from Hong Kong. It's called "Hero" and it's very much in the vein of Crouching Tiger. The cinematography is absolutely stunning, and I really enjoyed it...should be out in western cinemas soon!

Here's an asian babe for you lot:D

Welcome to the boards buggawagga and Alexis_Dreams!

I am fully in favor of your keeping the current one for a while.

'Course, I would say that about ANY of your avatars...
