Cool, I am from originally from NYC ... welcome Fleur.....

tell us more about your dancing......

and Mia, no incidences of this flu thingy up here yet, more Southern China. We have been having glorious Spring weather here in Beijing... methinks the Winter has finally left us.... and that the fruit trees are about to bloom

Thank you hong. I'm a hip hop dancer. I don't do it as a profession, but more for my own stress-relieving purposes. I generally choreograph dance steps with a few of my friends and just go from there. It's a passion of mine. Who knows, maybe one day I'll teach dance....:p

welcome, fleur! hope to see a hip hop av from you one of these days!

AFM, hey now, was that #11?

hongluobo, thank you for the *real* weather report from china. you're fortunate to face a lovely spring already.

RH, semi-Asian? whoosh!

mia

p.s. come check out my Numbers, Pure Numbers thread

"Semi" meaning "half" since I'm 'happa' (or maybe 'double'):

Well I have two double culture kids... and both are very smart and handsome/beautiful. The Chinese here in China say that Eurasian kids are naturally smarter. Don't know if that is true, but I am a proud poppa:D

Nah! :D

The new term among expats is TCK--third culture kids.

Oh, as an international school board member, I have had that one up the bejeeepers..... another new pop psy term for the counselors to justify their existence... And TCK is all expatriate kids..... not just the happa/doubba kids.

(sorry for being rough on that one.. there is some validity to the interpretation/distinction, so long as the interpretation serves people in a positive way - its just that I know a teacher who latched onto having been brought up TCK to blame for her own life's woes)

LOL...don't know if I'd go THAT far...but then what should be the label for MY children, whose ethnic heritage includes:

Japanese
Finn
African-American
American Indian
French
Russian

They're a daily reminder to me of the futility of dividing the world by ethnicity or race!

I'm with ya there, Hon...with demographic globalization, culture is now independent of ethnicity...I was born in Japan, but I'm clearly American in my cultural upbringing and outlook, with my Japanese heritage serving just to make me aware that American culture is not the only filter to use when viewing the world (something that certain people here in my current area of residence never learned)...I'm not sure what TCK is supposed to signify, but it could easily be shorthand for pigeonholing children with specific ethnic backgrounds!

I'm amused by your comment about Chinese impressions about Eurasian kids...I know many other than myself, and we ain't all that! But I imagine that native Japanese probably have much the same stereotype!

We are on the same page Roman.... and you are a true American mutt like so many of us are..... let's see my kids are an English, Hakka, Hokkien, Scottish, Anglo Irish, Dutch, French blend with perhaps some Vietnamese and other strains hiding out in the closet.

TCK is really about kids who grow up in countries other than the country of their ancestry or citizenship.

I would love to get into a conversation with you on global culture, stereotyping et. al. have much to say on those subjects, but we wouldn't want to bore folks here with that.

(pet peeve... the word Westernized/Westernization...to describe the inevitable culture result of urbanization and economic development in non-western nations)

I agree about not wanting to bore the other posters--but if you're inclined to hijack the thread in that direction, I'll be right there with ya!

And while I don't think that mixed race, multi-ethnic kids are smarter than any others, I personally find them to be cuter...I'm sure yours are no exception. Except for some reason, my wife thinks that Tiger Woods is ugly...go figure!

well maybe tomorrow.. its very late now..... funny thing about Tiger... my Chinese secretary has an incredible crush on him... thinks he is gorgeous. And I agree with you on the cuteness. It may sound weird, but I am hoping that I might have eurasian grandchildren. I have a good Eurasian/Canadian buddy here with a Chinese surname who has sired 2 blue eyed blond haired boys with his French wife and they naturally have... Chinese surnames.... has totally flummoxed the Chinese here.... (got to love it).

Eh, I dance hip hop too ;)
Hopefully going to do some breakdance too in the future. I've been teaching myself everything but it looks like I'm going to have to give in and go to classes soon :D

I'm in malaysia now! Flying to Hong Kong on Saturday.....its nice to be back in asia again :)

Nice to be back

Hello folks,
Thanks for the warm welcome. Sorry I had not been able to get online in the last few days. My final week here, and I barely had any time to sleep.
Anyway, I came on literotica around January this year. First got attracted by the stories here. After that, I started to explore the chat rooms and the bulletin board here.
How is everybody doing ? Just finished reading any news I could found online about the war going on now. Sad it has to be ended this way.

hongluobo, romanhans....
Not sure if the mixed ethnicity children are smarter.... but one of the reason is that the kids had the chance to learn at least 2 languages in the young ages..... maybe their brain are being developed in the younger ages ? Just my thought.

Hmmm...interesting idea, but I'm not sure I buy that. For example, it is well-established that children who grow up in a truly bi-lingual (or tri-lingual) household tend to start talking at a LATER age, since they appear to suffer from some 'language confusion.' Plus, why would this be true of Eurasian kids, but not (for example) kids with parents of different Asian ethnic backgrounds?

Plus, I know many people who are adept at multiple languages, but who are, well, kinda STUPID;)

Thanks for joining this thread!

Does it smell different to you? My American friends say the air smells different in SE Asia. I think it's just the humidity.

Classes are a lot of fun...especially if you go often and get a good connection with the teachers...it becomes better. But with my teacher, she's strict though. Sometimes I wonder if she came out of military school. Works us like we're in boot camp. But really honesty, I'm not complaining.

Well I'm glad you like it here. It's a great place to distress. :D

Ummm...distress, or de-stress? Seems like we need both...

Roman

Hello,
We sure can use some de-stress here. Fleur, I think being strict is the only way that a teacher can push the students to live up to their potential. At least you are happy with her, hopefully all these hard work would pay off in the future.

RH, did you get affected by the demontration in DC? I heard key bridge was blocked. At least it wasn't as affected as in SF.

Wish Ask for more is having a good time in HK. Hope he is careful with the pneumonia outbreak there.

Wish all have a good weekend, I think it is Friday afternoon in Asia now. Enjoy.
