Lit lists 25,268 writers, making the authors index unwieldy. Many of the writers only posted one story a while ago. Here's the question, should there be a higher standard for submissions or some sort of minimum words posted per year requirement to ensure more serious writers?

I don't think so. We contribute what we can. Some of us don't have time, energy or inspiration to be more prolific. Some of those one stories per memberpage are gems. ;)

I dunno, maybe an "Active" and "Inactive" writers lists. I think the minimum could be one submission in the past 12 months.

LOL, yeah, I'm really here just bullshittin' and talkin' smack. It just gets frustrating wading through it all and having people who really try to write something good grouped with the near-illiterates. (But I'm an elitist bitch! :D )

This wouldn't be a bad idea.

What is a serious writer? You think a word minimum per year would determine it? :)

Seriously? No. At the same time, and I think this site is beyond anything I could ever hope to create, if it were up to me, I would probably want to weed out the truly bad stories -- and the one time pathetic splooge fests. Or not -- when it came down to it I wouldn't have the ability to tell people they suck too much for my site.

Unless I had PMS.

I understand what you are saying, at least in part.

The beauty of this site it that it gave me a chance to write. Hopefully in the year that I have been writing at this site I have improved. Whether I have what it takes to become a true writer is yet to be seen. But at least this site gave this near-illiterate an oppurtunity.

On a similar note, my first story wasn't very good mechanically. I still need to rewrite it. I've been told that my stuff has improved quite a bit since then. Without the help of friends and editors here at Lit, I wouldn't be so damn proud of some of the tales I've recently written.

My first submission was rejected because I didn't know how to use quotation marks properly.

I'm one of those short attention span readers. Usually, within the first paragraph, I know whether I will like a story or not. Also, there's an amusement factor to the really bad stories. Hell, there could even be a pure wank factor to badly written stories. Not that I know.

I think the 'Active' and 'Inactive' authours idea has some merit.

Beyond that, I'll leave up to Laurel and Manu. I've noticed that I've never seen a story with a date earlier than 2000. I suspect they may do some weaning.

For me, at least, those two criteria are mutually exclusive

What would you do with someone like seattle Zack? He posts works here to get feedback, impressions, etc. But he also sells work, so as soon as something sells, he removes it from lit. He is prolific, but his author page wouldn't let you know it.
