2024 First Presidential Debate Thread: June 27th

I think the sad part is that some people seem to think one of these two is still their actual choice outside of "not the other guy"

I say that even though I will be voting for one.(Because not that one)...but in the end, our country is broken if these douches are our choices.

And no, this is not a "both sides" argument.

I absolutely favor one douche over the other by a huge measure because I prefer.democracy.

You are correct in that our country is broken. But not because Biden and Trump are the choices. (To be fair, I think only one of them is truly a douche.) They are only symptoms. Our country is broken because a government of, by and for the people can't really exist when a large majority of the citizenry is checked out from the process. That was happening long before Trump and Biden. They've actually raised voter involvement oddly enough, but that doesn't change the reality that more people - by a very reasonable chunk - did not vote than voted for either candidate.

The American electorate believes voting is optional or at best part-time. They are wrong and this is the result.

Ok, I'll give you that he's a caring man.

My word, douche, is meant to be about people unqualified to be our President at this point.

I need a better word.

Neither of these men deserve to be our President going forward. I'm voting for policy, not the man.

And I fucking hate that I am doing that.
Joe Biden continues to be one of the few people qualified to be president today. (Sorry, but Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama are the only other ones on that level.) And Joe Biden is being president, having brought us back from a clown school trying to show us a new silly trick every day to keep our attention and moaning.

Agreed. But there's more to that. I'm just angry right now....the reactions make me even more angry.

I know why Trump is wrong for the country. It's easy. The problem with Biden is more involved for me. I refuse to be histrionic about it, but there are so many issues obvious with the country this year that I don't know where to begin right now.

This debate proved it.

45 isn't either.

And that's where I'm at.

I understand.

I hope you find a way to channel your anger. Perhaps find ways to get people registered and involved.

Because of the way the US electorate fucked up 2016, there is no easy path.

I'll add....there are sooo many supporters of Biden who literally called for him to step down today. They love Biden, they love his politics.

They're calling for him to step down right now

Who could and would replace him? Realistically. Newsom has already said no.

I don't think switching horses mid-river is the way to go.

There's also a lot of people rallying around him. He did very well in his speech today. Seriously. Where the fuck was that Biden last night? Fuck if I know. But everyone has a bad day. Even on the worst day to have it.

No idea

But, Biden shit the bed.

So...

Yep, and Biden is horrible.

No it didn't. He had the facts; he just bobbled them in talking about them. He had real accomplishments and programs to talk about. He just had a confused evening--they probably prepared him too hard on top of the trips he also had to take. He was fine at the State of the Union (so, can do the prepared speech on the teleprompter thing, a standard presidential duty) and he's reported to be lucid and marching along just fine today. Trying to debate a wall-to-wall outrageous liar isn't one of the president's every day duties.

He's doing the job and he's getting more done than anyone back to Clinton did. You are drinking the Republican/Russian Kool Aid. If he wins another four years and maintains a heartbeat, his staff can carry both him and the country as well as happened in the final Reagan years--and far, far, far, far, far, far better than Trump can. If he's not breathing, there's a VP to stand up who the president didn't try to have murdered in an effort to keep him out of prison for crimes he actually committed.

i wouldn't mind seeing Hakeem Jeffries on the ticket, but would he get the votes?

for now, with no clear alternate candidate, to get Biden to step down would be chaotic.

re Jeffries:
During the impeachment hearings, in response to Trump's counsel's rhetorical question “Why are we here?” to the Senate, Jeffries delivered a soliloquy that concluded by quoting Biggie Smalls: "and if you don't know, now you know".[46][47] Billboard magazine called it a "noteworthy mic-drop moment".[48]

I have no desire to even listen to Russian information.

Z e r o!

Fuck off.

Biden's performance in the debate was obvious. 45's statements removed, Biden showed he wasn't capable.

I can't expect anyone who does not acknowledge that to be a serious person. Someone who refuses to acknowledges that Biden did horribly is not worth having a discussion with.

Well, you've already established yourself to be a douche on the topic . . .

I'm sure you think you're someone who could do the job and just because you're a brilliant debater every day of the month.

Going forward, if you try to tell me that Biden did well or didn't fuck up at this debate.....you're not a serious person. You should not be taken seriously

And no
..not comparable to Obama's first debate.

Yes, I understand that Biden shit the bed and you want to gaslight people.

Agreed.

I am fine in my position

And there is not a serious pundit who disagrees with me.

Point out where I posted that Biden did well in the debate. You are changing the goal post because it's finally dawning on you what a douche bag you're being about this and all the hoops you think someone has to jump through all the time to meet your informed standards of capability?

You can have your "fuck off" back on this.

And there is not a serious pundit who disagrees with me.
Trump said that a lot last night too.

Total bullshit on every serious pundit saying Biden is either a douche or not capable of being president because he screwed up in the debate. Sorry, buddy, but that's an outrageous Trumpian statement.

Lol..of course.

Please, provided us with your analysis of Biden in his debate.

You won't.

He's not qualified.
The ONLY qualification is to win the election, Biden did, therefore he IS qualified.
This debate proved it.
This debate and the rest are kind of meaningless in the context of what this election is about.
45 isn't either.
He wasn't qualified last time, till he won, then he was.
And that's where I'm at.
Yep, in between a rock and hard place. Thankfully you understand that, it seems many millions of Americans don't see what is at stake if Trump is elected.

How many left leaning pundits have called for him to step down today?

I have at least five before noon.

You're actually serious?

This debate and the rest are kind of meaningless in the context of what this election is about.
Lol

I don't support 45, AT ALL.....but do you not understand that this is a shit show? Are you incapable or admitting this?

Thanks

So one could estimate 31 million Democrat/Independent viewers vs 12 million Republican/Independent viewers. Also works out to just shy of 1/3rd of the number of people who voted in the last Presidential election.
In an era of a la carte streaming packages, it’s hard to guess party affiliation by network. Surely most Fox viewers are conservative. Most MSNBC viewers are progressive. As the host network, CNN probably drew from left, center and right. I watched on CNN. Independent represent a third or more of the electorate.

You're actually serious?
Yep, you're qualified if the electorate deem you so.
Laugh, Cry, it doesn't matter. If you think a Trump presidency will bring anything but Trump adding in more tax cuts, and seeking revenge against any who opposed him, or convicted him etc, you're fucking nuts.
Again, don't like the electorial system, fuck off and move. Find another country. What are the qualifications for Office of the President again??
Be 35 years of age, be an natural born citizen, and have live in the US for 14 years or more, and win the election. That's it.
I don't support 45, AT ALL.....but do you not understand that this is a shit show?
It's a side show, shit show, monkey show. Call it what you want. You have two choices, Trump, or someone else.
