🧘🏼‍♂️🤾🏻‍♀️Getting Sweaty Again: The 3rd Circuit 🚴🏼‍♂️🏋🏼‍♀️

I just discovered this thread and I'm delighted! I would love some extra support and motivation to keep me on track!

Basically, I'm at the beginning of my fitness journey...again  For the last four weeks I've been getting to the gym three times a week and throwing in one or two swims on rest days. After that, it's just making sure I get my 10k steps per day.

I'm focusing on good form and high reps instead of heavy lifting and trying to make a conscious effort to enjoy the journey instead of worrying about the destination.

I'm also tackling my diet (which is 95% of the battle) by eating properly during the week and not going too far overboard on the weekends.

Welcome :). So glad you’re here

It sounds like you’re already off to a great start. Looking forward to hearing more about your journey.

Alright… it’s time for me to get back in the groove. Too many vacations and not enough exercise. Perhaps my workout routine of all rest days will come to an end. Pmann’s Progress will get better!

If you're ever in a funk when the weather isn't conducive to walking, don't forget you have a friend who cares about you very much and is pretty generous with giving hugs. 🤗

I think the Swedish have a really good mentality when it comes to getting exercise when it's cold and dark and wet and miserable (they'd have to when you think about how little sunlight they get during the winter):

"There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad gear"

Try remembering that in Ireland in November, when it's raining sideways with some god-awful Siberian wind trying to cut you in half and it's the middle of the night by 5pm because the sun fucked off to the southern hemisphere at 3pm  ... the point is positivity is key!

This is the most positive thread on lit. 🔥

Wife had surgery recently and we just did a mile with the dog. Feels so good to exercise together again.

Thank you. Yeah I feel like it’s mostly a safe little corner of Lit. Glad you’re here

Wow congrats to you and your wife. That’s great that she’s up and moving again. 💜

Went for my walk this morning. It was sunny and breezy. We aren’t having the heat wave that much of the country is having right now, so walks are still very pleasant.

I’m happy with how I’m establishing a structure or a habit for my workouts. I’ve consistently gotten right up and gone out to get my steps in. It has been a while since I’ve created an exercise routine. Carving out specific time to for fitness is big for me.

I hope you all have a great Saturday 🌸

I never weigh myself anymore, but had to at a medical appointment. I’ve lost about 30lbs since starting with my trainer. It’s difficult for me to be happy with that because I’m sort of anti-diet. But I haven’t been dieting, really, so I guess I’m happy? I definitely feel better and more confident in the gym. I was happy to see it pay off even though I’m not actively trying to lose weight.

I think that is great—since you weren’t actively trying, it seems like that is where your body naturally wants to be.

How long have you been working with your trainer?

I wonder how much stress has to do with our weight gain/loss. I am sure it differs for everyone and I’ve heard that stress is a big cause of weight gain and/or loss. Is it because our habits change when we are stressed and so we devote less time and concentration to our wellness? Or is it on a more basic physical change in our bodies?

I'm a pretty firm believer in stress having an effect. If for no other reason that when stressed a person is more likely to eat or drink more as a coping mechanism.
